Yu-Gi-Oh Cards: The Good, Bad and Meh (Page 7)

Mucus Yolk: Largely a Ghost When you think of attacking directly, you're likely picturing up to 1000 ATK and maybe some DEF with an effect allowing such direct attacks. However, Mucus Yolk, doesn't have any ATK at all and its effect relies entirely on it dealing battle damage. This means it must gain ATK through effects, making it less ideal than early direct attackers like Leghul. I'd realistically say that if this appeared in the anime and attacked a player directly, they wouldn't feel anything. |

Mirror Force: Access Denied Whether it was direct damage or losing a monster, this card blocked them all. The only thing it required was an attack from the opponent, and you didn't need to control any monsters or even have cards in your hand. Of course, cards that blocked Traps like Jinzo were a real problem, but other than that, most monsters would go down in an instant, and in some cases this would take out all the opponent's monsters at once. Back when it debuted, there wasn't much that could stop it and it was rightfully considered a staple. Right up there with the big name Spell Cards and other Trap Cards of the day too. |

Shrink: Only Half Off Lowering a monster's ATK and/or DEF isn't necessarily a bad idea, especially if said card can be used during your turn, but most of these only last a single turn, and this is also true for Shrink, which debuted as a prize card. The idea is simple, cut 1 monster's ATK by half and being a Quick-Play, it can be used during either player's turn, much like Trap Cards. It was certainly among the highest ATK losses available at the time, but I don't really consider it worthy of being a prize card. Perhaps if it negated the monster's effect as well it could've been more worthy. |
