Yu-Gi-Oh the Movie (3)
Atem is down half the cards in his Deck and soon he'll lose them all but Kaiba first uses Peten's effect to remove itself for Peten the Dark Clown (1200) in Defense Mode (and it's much clearer here that it's a Spellcaster-Type monster as shown at 50:19 into the movie). Then to start his turn, he uses Polymerization to bring out Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon (4500) in Attack Mode. His attack takes out Atem's powered up Magician's Valkyria to leave Atem down to 1500 LPs and down on more energy. Meanwhile, Yugi and crew finally are able to catch their breath as Yugi explains that they were drawn into the Millennium Puzzle thanks to the glowing millennium symbol above them but can't make sense of the imagery down below where the Millennium Puzzle and the Pyramid of Light pendent have collided.
Yugi believe it's all thanks to Anubis, an ancient Egyptian sorcerer and recalls what Solomon had deciphered on the sarcophagus earlier. Yugi believes they need to head back to where the mummies are but at least they can outrun them. Anubis adds more mayhem with the mummies while Atem warns Kaiba without success to stop the duel due to the ancient force at work. Kaiba's BEUD will bring Atem down but Atem draws and uses Monster Reborn to revive Dark Magician Girl (whom still has her pentagram when Summoned despite her card's artwork getting the usual censorship and clearly this was lost via Deck Destruction Virus' effect) (2000) in Attack Mode. Then he uses his face down Sage's Stone to Special Summon Dark Magician (2500) in Attack Mode since DMG is on his field.
It's a bigger deal than Kaiba realizes as Atem tributes his monsters for Sorcerer of Dark Magic (3200) in Attack Mode and due to its first effect, Kaiba's monsters lose 500 ATK for each Spellcaster-Type monster in Atem's Graveyard, lowering BEUD's ATK to 3000. (The real card doesn't have this effect.) His attack takes out BEUD to leave Kaiba down to 2100 LPs. Worse still, his next draw is no good so Atem draws and takes out Peten but due to SoDM's 2nd effect, it negates Deck Destruction Virus and destroys the card. (The real card cannot negate Continuous Trap Card effects.) Kaiba draws and we can hear Anubis laughing with Kaiba before Kaiba uses Monster Reborn on Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon in Attack Mode. Then he tributes it for Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon (3000) in Attack Mode.
Due to BESD's effect, it gains 300 ATK per Dragon in Kaiba's Graveyard, raising its ATK by 1500 to 4500. (It actually should get more as Kaiba lost Paladin of White Dragon when he tributed it earlier.) SoDM would make BESD lose ATK points but BESD lets its owner choose which card effects can target it, leaving its ATK untouched. Kaiba's attack with it takes out SoDM to leave Atem down to 200 LPs and unable to stay up. Back in the Millennium Puzzle, Yugi becomes very weak and the group discover an energy source that might lead them to Anubis so they head off.
At the duel, things get worse as the dueling arena continues to crumble away and Pegasus comes to Solomon and Tea`s' aid via helicopter. On board, Pegasus explains that Anubis tried 5000 years ago to beat Atem and now he's back to finish the job, meaning that the prophecy is being fulfilled with Atem and Kaiba in the middle of it. Yugi and crew find the source and learn what's in store if they don't stop Anubis, whom is gathering energy from others to feed his own rebirth. Yugi orders Tristan and Joey to get out while he himself figures out the link between the Millennium Puzzle and the prophecy but Joey and Tristan are here to stay and Tea` realizes they're in trouble and separates from her spirit to come and help.
However, Anubis locks her in place before fully bringing her within the Millennium Puzzle and Tea` shows off some attacking skills. Nevertheless, the mummies leave her creeped out afterwards and eventually the group are surrounded, unable to destroy them. Kaiba is ready to knock Atem back down again and sets 1 card to end his turn. Atem struggles to get up, then draws and summons Big Shield Gardna (2600) in Defense Mode. Kaiba's attack destroys BSG so Atem draws and uses Pot of Greed, then Special Summons Watapon (300) in Defense Mode by its effect. Next he plays Obnoxious Celtic Guardian (Obnoxious Celtic Guard in the CG) (1200) in Defense Mode to end his turn.
Unimpressed, Kaiba plans to take Atem down using the very God Cards Atem played but is forced into a struggle with Anubis. Eventually, Kaiba proceeds to use BESD's last effect to tribute itself and destroy the Pyramid of Light but PoL stays on the field due to Anubis' power. (The real BESD doesn't have this effect.) Worse still, a very muscular man appears and throws Kaiba aside before Atem realizes it's Anubis. Anubis draws and Special Summons Andro Sphinx (3000) and Sphinx Teleia (2500) in Attack Mode (though it's unclear how as we've seen cards have different effects than the TCG so while possible they have the same effects, they aren't quite the same as you'll soon see). Atem draws and sets 1 card to (apparently) end his turn.
Anubis draws and sets 1 card before taking out Atem's defenses (leading me to believe that ST negates the effects of a monster it battles with, which'd explain why OCG is getting destroyed in spite of its effect but the real ST deals half the DEF of the monster it destroys, which'd have cost Atem the duel). Atem draws his last card but it's two Spell Cards (and at 1:13:42 into the US movie, it shows Diffusion Wave Motion instead of Double Spell). While Atem figures out what to do next, Yugi and crew continue battling the mummies before Yugi realizes that the eye at the top seems to be controlling the mummies and eventually deciphers the prophecy.
Yugi races up to Anubis' sarcophagus and finds the dagger but while it seems like it failed, it's enough to weaken the powers of the Pyramid of Light.
