| Episode 27: A Team Performance | |

Yuma's opponent is ready to duel and they wager Heart Pieces before his opponent
reveals himself as Striker, a name that sounds familiar to Caswell. After
duel preparations take place, Yuma draws and sets a monster, leading Astral to
conclude that his skills are rubbing onto Yuma. Despite not knowing about
Astral, Striker draws and plays Stadium of Dreams,
which transforms the field and the audience and changes all face-down monsters
face-up, revealing Yuma's Gogogo Golem (1500) in
Defense Mode. Next he plays Wing Captain (1100) in
Attack Mode and attacks, activating Perfect Pass
to double WC's ATK and negate GG's effects, raising WC's ATK to 2200 and taking
out GG. Furthermore, WC has the Fairy Meteor Crush effect, leaving Yuma down to 3300 LPs. Lastly, Striker sets 1 card to end his turn. Yuma draws (and wouldn't Striker be able to see what card Yuma drew if it appears on the board opposite him?) and summons Gagaga Magician (1500) in Attack Mode and takes out WC, or so he thinks as Striker activates Offside Trap to revive Wing Captain, reduce Battle Damage from the attack to 0 and end Yuma's turn. Striker draws and plays Top Scorer (2000) in Attack Mode without Tribute since he controls Stadium of Dreams. His attacks take out GM and leave Yuma down to 1700 LPs. Next he uses Eye Contact to retrieve OT, then sets 1 card to end his turn. Just then, Debsy and Donovan, Heartland United athletes and now Caswell understands that Striker is their kid brother. Striker is a duelist not a soccer player and thus doesn't believe in teamwork. Nevertheless, Yuma draws and plays Zubaba Buster (1800) in Attack Mode. Next he uses Monster Reborn to revive Gogogo Golem in Defense Mode. Then he uses Cross Attack to let ZB attack directly since Yuma controls 2 monsters with the same ATK, leaving Striker down to 2200 LPs. As a bonus, Yuma and Astral uses ZB's effect to have it lose 800 ATK to 1000 but destroy Striker's WC since it's the weakest monster. After that, Yuma uses Extra Blast to deal 500 damage to Striker since one of his monsters was destroyed by a monster effect, bringing his score equal to Yuma's. Striker has never believed in teamwork and we get a glimpse into his past where his soccer skills are ridiculed. Since that day, he's turned his back on his brothers to prove he can do it by himself. However, Yuma realizes that everything Striker has played involves soccer. After some consideration, Striker admits to having some soccer-themed cards. To begin his turn, Striker draws and summons Defending Sweeper (100) in Attack Mode. Due to DS' effect, it gains 1 Level since SoD is out, making it Level 5. Next, he uses All for One to revive Wing Captain in Attack Mode and increase its Level by 1 to Level 5 since he has two monsters with the same type and attribute. With that done, he uses his monsters as Xyz Material for Playmaker (2600) in Attack Mode. His attack doesn't take out ZB as Yuma activates Half Unbreak to prevent its destruction and halve the Battle Damage, leaving him down to 900 LPs. Nevertheless, Striker uses Playmaker's effect to detach an Xyz Material and let it attack Yuma's strongest monster. GG survives the first attack but Striker detaches a 2nd Xyz Material from Playmaker to let it attack again and takes out GG. Next he detaches its last Xyz Material to attack ZB again, leaving Yuma down to 100 LPs. Yuma is always winning when he's with his teammates and draws. Next he plays Gagaga Girl (1000) in Attack Mode and uses it and ZB as Xyz Material for Muzurhythm the String Djinn (1500) in Attack Mode. Then he equips it with Giant Hunter to prevent Striker from activating Spell or Trap Cards during this battle and halve Playmaker's ATK to 1300 since his own LPs are lower. After that, Yuma uses Muzurhythm's effect to detach an Xyz Material to double its ATK to 3000. His attack takes out Playmaker to win the duel. Yuma and the others rush over to find that Striker is laughing as Yuma had been right all along. Striker was still into soccer and now realizes what teamwork is all about. Furthermore, his brothers arrive to welcome him back on their soccer team. Striker is always a winner when he believes in his teammates. Yuma gets a Heart Piece but needs a few more so everyone else better watch out! |
