Episode 93: A Duel with Destiny (1)

In Mai's hospital room, Joey keeps trying to get through to Mai, whom remains motionless in bed. Serenity suggests the group head off to watch the next duel of the finals while she watches over Mai herself. Her speech convinces them and while the group waits for the eighth duelist, they hope him or her isn't working for Marik. Kaiba figures his God Card will crush this eighth duelist and Mokuba interrupts his train of thought by bringing good news in which the network succeeded in getting the card's text scanned and is told to contact Kaiba when the results are in. Roland announces that Kaiba will win automatically if his opponent doesn't show within 5 minutes but she arrives and is an all-to-familiar face to Yami and Tea` as they had met her in the Ancient Egypt Exhibit.

After struggling to announce who the eighth duelist is, Roland learns that Kaiba's opponent, the eighth duelist is Ishizu Ishtar. She's not here for Obelisk, she's here to save his brother but Dark Marik has banished his good half to the Shadow Realm after it tried to get through to Ishizu. Kaiba made the tournament to reclaim his title as #1 duelist in the world but Ishizu reminds him that it was her idea to organize the tournament. Having no interest in Ishizu's lectures on his own heritage, Kaiba orders the duel to start and with that, he plays Vorse Raider (1900) in Attack Mode and, as Ishizu predicts, sets 1 card to end his turn. Meanwhile, Mokuba sees that the last line of text isn't yet successfully translated but while he figures it out, Ishizu plays Keldo (1600) in Defense Mode without looking, knowing that this is coming.

Next, she plays Michizure of Doom (Dragged Down into the Grave in the CG as the artwork there has a big similarity to Ishizu's card here), which as Kaiba mentally explains lets both players see each others' hands and discard 2 cards from their hands. Kaiba mentally protests that Ishizu must've been cheating to know that he himself had the exact two cards she asked to be discarded, then orders Ishizu to discard Revival Magic (which is Spell Reproduction in the CG, given the similarity in artworks) and Monster Reborn. She concludes her turn and Dark Marik remembers Ishizu's tactics very well, convinced that Ishizu wouldn't be able to defeat him in a duel now and will never turn him back to that state again, showing Ishizu what he's done to his good half. Kaiba draws and attacks, destroying Keldo with VR, then sets 1 card, thinking he'll devastate Ishizu with his Shrink + Crush Card combo. Ishizu plays Mudora (1500) in Attack Mode and doesn't like Kaiba insulting her family but Dark Marik is also growing tired of Ishizu's speech. Next, Ishizu activates Sword of  Dogra (Cestus of Dagla in the CG) raising her monster's ATK by 500 to 2000.

She attacks but Kaiba is ready with Shrink, halving his monsters' ATK to 950 and leaving his own score down to 2950, and Crush Card (Crush Card Virus in the CG), destroying both monsters and taking out all monsters in Ishizu's deck with 1500 or more ATK. (The real card's effect lasts 3 turns but does force the opponent to show all cards they draw and get rid of any monsters they draw with 1500 or more ATK.) Yami and Joey question why Ishizu didn't see Kaiba's combo coming but Ishizu draws, thinking her card will be needed later, then plays Swords of Revealing Light to keep Kaiba's monsters at bay for 3 turns. She sets 1 card to end her turn. Oops! From 15:29 to 15:34 into the US episode, Kaiba calls Virus Cannon a Spell Card even though it's clearly a Trap Card (although it IS a Spell Card in the Japanese version).

Kaiba draws and plays Dark Gremlin (Des Feral Imp in the CG and it's an Effect Monster that lets you shuffle 1 card in your Grave back into your deck.) (1600) in Attack Mode (not Defense Mode as he says from 15:51 to 15:54 into the US episode, because we'd see the card underneath the monster, which'd also be in a kneeling position). Ishizu and Kaiba draw, passing their respective turns. Mokuba is having better luck with the translation and once the translation is complete, Kaiba will be unstoppable. Back on the airship, both duelists once again pass, although Ishizu learns that her Millennium Necklace was correct as she's drawn the one card that will win her the duel. Kaiba takes advantage of Ishizu's lack of monsters and attacks directly with DG/DFI, leaving Ishizu down to 2400 LPs. He'll destroy her with the very God Card she gave him. Ishizu warns that he'll be destroyed if he uses Obelisk. Nothing will save Ishizu from Obelisk's wrath. She'd better not resist it for the end is here!
