Episode 71: Double Duel (2)

At the skyscraper duel, Lumis gloats how they'll have all 3 God Cards once Yami and Kaiba lose, then draws and plays Mask of the Accursed, equipping it to Yami's Beta the Magnet Warrior, preventing it from attacking or defending and dealing Yami 500 damage each turn. (The real card just prevents the monster from attacking but still deals 500 damage to the monster's controller during their Standby Phases.) Next he sets 1 card face down to end his turn and Yami mentally concludes that Lumis' deck is filled with Spell and Trap Cards while Umbra has Monsters (if you paid attention the last time you faced this duo, you'd know that's not true).

Yami draws, taking 500 damage from Lumis' Spell Card, leaving his score down to 3500 and plans to tribute his Magnet Warrior for his newly drawn Beast of Gilfer (Archfiend of Gilfer in the CG) but when he tries, Lumis activates Mask of Restrict, preventing Yami and Kaiba from making tributes. (The real card has this effect but it applies to both sides of the field.) Instead, Yami sets 1 card and plays Kuriboh (200) in Defense Mode. Kaiba still isn't interested in teamwork so Umbra draws and considers his options before choosing to attack Kaiba's monster (apparently without switching Shining Abyss to Attack Mode because the corner of the card was still visible before Umbra declared his attack) but Kaiba is prepared with Ring of Destruction, which'll deal both of them nearly 2000 Life Points but Umbra's monster will be destroyed (the real card inflicts the current ATK to both players, which in this case would be 2600).

However, Lumis is ready with Curse Transfer, switching Kaiba's Trap Card target to his own Vorse Raider and destroying it but Kaiba counters with Ring of Defense to save his LPs from Ring of Destruction's effect (the real card saves both players' LPs from effect damage) yet Umbra activates Spell Transfer to move Ring of Defense to his side and leave Kaiba's score down to 2100. Next Umbra attacks Kaiba directly but meanwhile, Tristan gets a bit lost on his way to the hospital but arrives nonetheless, boosting Serenity's confidence about removing her bandages. In another room, Solomon is with Bakura and is happy to see that Bakura is sleeping from learning that's what the doctor ordered. However, Dark Bakura reveals that he's not completely asleep, mentally calling Solomon foolish.

Elsewhere in a warehouse, Tea` gets thrown into a room and left to ponder why she's in there in the first place but it doesn't take her long to figure it out. Back at the duel, Umbra's attack is blocked by thousands of Kuribohs thanks to Yami's Multiply card but Kaiba doesn't offer any gratitude and would prefer to see Yami lose. Lumis is all ready to take out Yami's wall of Kuribohs, confident that their opponents won't see it until its too late. Back in the warehouse, Tea` is just a little short of getting out when the boxes crumble and she ends up back on the floor in time to see Mokuba enter. Mokuba explains the missing pieces to Tea` and how he got into the mess. Once again at the duel,

Kaiba sets 1 card and summons Battle Ox (1000) in Defense Mode. Lumis gloats before using Mask of Dispel, negating Multiply's effect and leaving Yami with just one Kuriboh along with dealing Yami 500 damage each turn. (The real card doesn't negate the Spell Card you select but still deals its controller 500 damage each turn.) Next he plays Grand Tiki Elder (1500) in Attack Mode and takes out Yami's Kuriboh. Yami draws, taking 1000 damage from Lumis' two Mask cards, leaving him down to 2500. His hand isn't looking good and can't figure out what to do before Kaiba leads him to believe he should use Card Destruction.

Instead he sets 1 card to end his turn.

Umbra uses Curse of the Masked Beast to tribute both their monsters for The Masked Beast (3200) in Attack Mode (and you could've used that Card Destruction to prevent this, Yami). Umbra attacks but to everyone elses' surprise, Kaiba defends Yami with his own monster, destroying it. Returning the favor, Yami uses Card Destruction to force all players to discard their hands and redraw, letting Kaiba bring out the monster that used to be in his hand and uses Monster Reborn to bring back his Blue-Eyes White Dragon (3000) in Attack Mode!
