Episode 66: Mime Control (2)

While Yami and Strings/Marik argue over rights to the puzzle, Kaiba Corp gets a visit from Kaiba, asking about the whereabouts of the other God Cards and responds that they're searching around the clock with no luck thus far. Kaiba trusts they won't screw up the assignment, then gloats about what'll happen when he has all 3 God Cards before heading off, leaving Mokuba to carry the briefcase. Back at the duel, S/M says that destiny is on his side and shares his story of his ancient past. Yami knows he can't let Marik win and draws but ends his turn since Nightmare's Steelcage's effect is still active. S/M draws, getting his last necessary Slime Token, then tributes them and his Jam Breeding Machine (which cannot be tributed here or in the CG because it's not a Monster Card, though "sacrifice" appears to be mean having it be destroyed by its anime effect as S/M is summoning a non-Slime Token monster) to bring out Slifer the Sky Dragon (X000) in Attack Mode, explaining that its ATK becomes the number of cards in hand x1000, giving it 2000 ATK, not enough against Yami's Buster Blader.

(The version released in the CG that matches the version played here has no effects but the Effect Monster version does.)

However, Strings activates Pot of Greed to draw 2 cards, giving Slifer a new ATK strength of 3000. Yami protests that there's a hand size limit (which is 6) but S/M protests that rules are meant to be broken, realizing that Yami will learn about Slifer's power the hard way since he holds the cards to give his monster infinite strength. Yami knows that his monster gains 500 ATK for each Dragon-Type monster on the field, giving his monster a current ATK of 3100 but by the time it can attack, it may not be strong enough anymore. (The real Slifer is a Divine-Beast-type monster.) Yami draws, thinking it might help but perhaps if he can hang on a bit longer, he might be able to turn the duel around. (Hm, they've changed his hand in this episode from last episode, which had Dark Magician and few, if any cards from his previous hand.) He sets 2 cards face down and summons Kuriboh (200) in Defense Mode for his turn. S/M draws, giving his monster 4000 ATK and he attacks but Yami counters with Lightforce Sword, taking one card out of S/M's hand for the turn (rather 3 turns as stated in earlier episodes).

Yami counterattacks but it's again intercepted by Revival Jam thanks to Jam Defender's effect. S/M continues his turn by activating Card of Safe Return, letting him draw 3 cards each time his Jam Defender reforms (I think in this case, he's given Revival Jam a nickname of Jam Defender but it could also be a script error but in any case, the real Card of Safe Return only lets you draw 1 card when a monster is Special Summoned from your Graveyard.)

With three new cards in hand, Slifer's ATK is now at 5000. (Even if the anime effect was on the real card, you couldn't just draw the three cards after activating the card because the card wasn't in play when its effect would've been triggered.) Meanwhile, because of trying to uphold his reputation from Duelist Kingdom, Joey declines challenging a nearby duelist. He can't just go challenging any inexperienced duelist he sees! Kaiba arrives but when he sees Joey with one of his own Duel Disks, he turns around to leave, deciding to deal with Joey's registration screw-up later. This is the challenge Joey has been waiting for and ignores any warning by his friends. Kaiba accepts, wanting to teach Joey to behave like the dog he's considered to be.

Just as they prepare to duel, Kaiba's helicopter arrives and Kaiba receives word of the recent summoning of a God Card that he and Mokuba will be flown to. Despite Joey's confidence, his friends tell him he's safe with that same Rare Hunter watching from a nearby building's corner. On board the helicopter, Kaiba and Mokuba learn that the God Card was played during a duel with Yami and Kaiba declares that he'll make the card his. Back at the duel, S/M attacks (which, given that he already attacked before, is an illegal move), destroying Buster Blader and leaving Yami's score down to 2100. S/M continues trying to convince Yami that it's impossible to win but Yami draws and gets Magic Cylinder, which needs a magician card to work and he's got Dark Magician Girl to help out. (Luckily for us, Magic Cylinder needs nothing more than an opponent's attack declaration for its activation.) He tributes Kuriboh for Dark Magician Girl (1700) in Defense Mode, triggering Slifer's effect to take away 2000 DEF from her but Yami activates Magical Hats to conceal her, then takes his turn by setting 2 cards underneath said hats.

S/M activates Infinite Cards to keep as many cards in his hand as he wants. Next, he attacks the hat holding Dark Magician Girl, activating Yami's Magic Cylinder and Spellbinding Circle cards, lowering Slifer's ATK to 4300 and having its attack literally backfire but Revival Jam blocks it as well, letting S/M draw 3 cards and raise his God Card's ATK to 7300, then to 8300 as he draws his card and finally 9000 from Spellbinding Circle's effect expiring (though the real card would stay because neither version of the card has protection from Spells, Traps, or Monster Effects except when Summoned). His attack takes out DMG and Yami is beginning to believe that Slifer is unstoppable when Kaiba arrives, ordering Yami to get up and prove that he can take down Slifer. Once he finds out Slifer's weakness, he'll take Slifer and have the most powerful deck in the world!
