Episode 59: Espa Roba, the ESP Duelist (2)

At the duel, Espa Roba can see that Joey is losing hope and plays Amplifier, raising Jinzo's ATK by 500 to 2900 and will continue raising its ATK by 300 each turn. (The real card doesn't raise Jinzo's ATK, but makes Jinzo's effect only apply to your opponent.) His attack takes out Joey's Alligator's Sword and leaving Joey down to 1200. Joey draws and plays Baby Dragon (1200) in Attack Mode, a familiar card to Rex from his loss to Joey at Duelist Kingdom. ER ridicules, pondering whether to attack it or give it a baby bottle but Joey adds Time Wizard (500) to the field in Attack Mode (an illegal move in the CG, which I will NOT let slide because the rules here are closer to the CG now). ER realizes that Joey is going to age BD and Joey takes the gamble with TW's effect.

His result succeeds as BD becomes Thousand Dragon (2400) in Attack Mode but because of Jinzo's special armor, it's unaffected by Time Wizard's magic (then it's a good thing Time Wizard doesn't age monsters in the CG, not that Jinzo has any powers to stop it in that case anyway). ER attacks, destroying TD and leaving Joey down to 900 LPs (though not shown) and wondering how long he can old on. Meanwhile, Tristan continues his lie that Joey is winning the duel. The nurse enters to take Serenity's temperature so Tristan steps outside, getting an idea. Serenity is doing better now but she requests the nurse to inform whom is actually winning the duel.

Elsewhere, Tea` is still freaked out about the ancient evil talk when she gets a bigger scare from Solomon and nearly breaks his nose when she reels her head backwards.  Next she gets a call from Tristan, and is informed of a message he wants her to give Joey when he finds the duel he's in. Speaking of the duel, Joey takes his turn by playing Scapegoat and ER continues making fun. Rex figures the duel is as good as over because even he couldn't defeat Jinzo. (That's because you play cards weaker than it like Serpent Night Dragon instead of something like Black Tyranno, which I suppose you could've had but still, you could've had cards that destroyed Jinzo like Smashing Ground.) Nevertheless, Joey isn't giving up and inside the hospital, Tristan is given the green light to re-enter Serenity's room but learns that Serenity already knows Tristan has been lying the whole time and shares her story of her bond with Joey.

She makes a request to cheer Joey on and Tristan agrees. At the duel,  ER summons Reflect Bounder (1700) in Attack Mode and explains that almost every attack it receives is bounced back (The real card is a LIGHT monster that inflicts damage to your opponent equal to the ATK of the monster that attacks it, then it self-destructs after the Damage Step, and we can see at 9:34 into the episode that the card is a DARK monster for the anime.) Plus, Jinzo gets 300 more ATK, bringing its ATK up to 3200 (apparently not counting for last turn after Joey played Scapegoat). Joey begins doubting himself when Tea` and Solomon appear from the crowd and give him the message and confidence needed to continue the duel by playing Roulette Spider, which for half his LPs (from which they somehow got 700 LPs at 13:21 into the episode before being halved to 350) moves Jinzo to the center and RS causes Jinzo to spin.

After some tense seconds, ER orders the spinning to end and Jinzo's new target becomes RB, destroying both monsters and winning the duel from the 1500 LP difference between the monsters' ATKs. Nevertheless, ER isn't ready to give up his Jinzo and Locator Card yet and doesn't need Joey's pity but knocks the earphone out of his ear, giving Joey a source for the voices that follow. His brothers appear and the group hugs. While Yami heads back, ER finally gives Joey his Jinzo and Locator Cards. After an explanation on their similarities, Joey heads off, knowing he isn't alone to face the tough times ahead.
