Episode 32: Keith's Machinations (2)

The duel is close with a mere 50 Life Points separating Joey and Bandit Keiths' scores. Joey protests that people like Keith never win. However, Keith sets 1 card, then plays Barrel Dragon (2600) in Attack Mode, which has three attacks not one. He attacks, taking out both of Joey's monsters and leaving Joey himself down to 850 LPs. (The real card can't attack more than once on its own and you must toss a coin and get at least 2 Heads to continue attacking.)Joey plays Time Wizard (500) and Baby Dragon (1200) in Attack Mode (You can't Normal Summon twice in a single turn without another card like Double Summon in the CG.), leaving Keith two things to worry about, unless the TW lands on a skull, leaving Joey at the mercy of Keith's BD (well actually he'd lose for half of his monsters' combined ATKs is 850, which would wipe out his remaining LPs.)

Luck holds with Joey and Keith's monster weakens, letting Joey bring out Thousand Dragon (2400) in Attack Mode. Oops! At 6:54 into the US episode, Thousand Dragon has 2500 DEF! His attack takes out BD but history repeats itself as BK activates Time Machine to bring it back to the field with its original strength (Apparently TM doesn't calculate Battle Damage but you do in the CG). BK's attack takes out TD, leaving Joey down to 650. All Joey can do is set 1 monster in Defense Mode. BK plays Slot Machine (2000) in Attack Mode, then uses BD to take out Joey's hidden Kojikocy (1200) in Defense Mode. Joey sets 1 card and summons Red-Eyes Black Dragon (Red-Eyes B. Dragon in the CG) (2400) in Attack Mode.

BK attacks but Joey activates his face down Copycat card, letting him copy Magic Metal Force and bring out Red-Eyes Black Metal Dragon (2800) in Attack Mode. (Copycat, in anime or CG is a Monster Card and therefore shouldn't be in his Spell and Trap Zone and therefore can't be activated like a Spell or Trap. In the CG, it's a Level 1 LIGHT monster with 0 ATK and DEF that can copy the ATK and DEF of any monster your opponent controls.) Joey's counterattack takes out BD to leave BK down to 900 LPs. Didn't Joey take out BK's best monster? BK sets 1 card and switches Slot Machine to Defense Mode (which contrary to Joey is a good move for he won't take damage if SM is destroyed now). Joey also sets a card, then attacks with REBMD but Keith activates 7 Completed, raising his monster's DEF by 700 to 3000 (and interestingly its artwork has the cards themselves designed like the Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh manga). Since SM's DEF is now greater than REBMD's ATK, Joey loses the difference, bringing his score down to 450. (You can't play Equip Spell Cards this way in the CG.) BK boasts about having additional 7 Completed cards in his deck and pulls one out of his sleeve after drawing his actual card but it doesn't go unnoticed by Pegasus.

Playing another 7 Completed, he chooses SM's ATK, putting it at 2700. Next he plays Blast Sphere (2900) in Attack Mode and orders it to attach to Joey's REBMD and will deal that monster 2900 damage. (The real card's ATK is 1400 and once attacked face down, it equips to the monster and will destroy the monster during the opponent's next Standby Phase, dealing them damage equal to their monster's ATK.) However, after BK ends his turn, REBMD still stands as Joey equipped his monster with Dragon Nails, raising its ATK by 600 to 3400 but BK takes the difference in ATK, putting his score down to 400. BK uses the same trick as last turn, playing a third 7 Completed, putting SM's ATK to equal REBMD's. Next, he uses The Pillager to take and use Joey's Shield & Sword card, making his SM stronger. (A card in the CG called Confiscation does a similar thing but costs 1000 Life Points to use and sends the chosen card to the Grave.) He attacks but Joey activates Graverobber to take and use Time Machine, bringing his REBMD back. (The real Graverobber can only select Spell Cards and if you use it, you take 2000 damage.) Joey attacks, destroying SM and winning the duel. BK protests that the duel shouldn't count since Joey's tournament participation card wasn't his but how could he have known that? Pegasus explains everything and orders his goons to take BK out of the room. However, he fights back and gives Pegasus to the count of three to give in but Pegasus simply hits a hidden bottom with his foot and BK plummets into the ocean below. The finalists are given a 10 minute break but to save his grandpa, Yugi must duel his best friend!
