Episode 14+15: The Light at the End of the Tunnel

(Strangely they don't have the "Previously on Yu-Gi-Oh..." bit despite having clips from the previous episode). We find Mai Valentine is the source of the scream as her monsters and her LPs got wiped out. She reluctantly removes her star chips and we see a rather large guy snickering as she gets down from the arena. Yugi and his friends arrive to get the story and we learn the big guy's name is Panik (or Panic I suppose but the latter seems to make sense given that his Japanese name is Player Killer or PK and that's what I'll use here) and is one of the eliminators as Pegasus pays him for. Joey wants violence but is held back as Yugi takes up the challenge instead, saying he's dealt with bullies before and one has to stand up to them.

After his transformation, Yu-Gi-Oh has figured out Panik's routine but Panik shows that much more is at stake when he duels by giving Yu-Gi-Oh a dose of flames. At last, the flames are turned off and Panik warns that the last duelist that talked to him that way felt his wrath. Mai thinks that while good, Yu-Gi-Oh hasn't faced an eliminator before. Panik begins the duel with Castle of Dark Illusions (1930 to 2509 by its FPB) in Defense Mode. Not knowing what he's up against, Yu-Gi-Oh plays Celtic Guardian (1200) in Defense Mode. Panik plays his own monster (that we can just see is Barox) (1380) in Attack Mode and takes out CG with it. Yu-Gi-Oh remarks that it's tough talk coming from someone hiding in shadows. Oops! At 6:54 into the episode, we can see Yu-Gi-Oh's score is down to 1606 but his monster was in Defense Mode and Barox has no effect at all! While a song plays, Yu-Gi-Oh has brought out Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress (1400) in Attack Mode and taken out two of Panik's monsters to leave him down to some amount. However, Panik's next attack (which must be from the later revealed Dark Chimera (1610 ATK) puts Yu-Gi-Oh down to the 1606 amount seen earlier. Then he plays King of Yamimakai (2000) in Attack Mode.

Yu-Gi-Oh brings out Curse of Dragon (1500) in Defense Mode. Panik plays Reaper of the Cards (1380) in Attack Mode and attacks but Yu-Gi-Oh activated Spellbinding Circle (apparently lowering its ATK by 700 or Panik's score would've been higher than 494 from Curse of Dragon's attack). Yu-Gi-Oh illuminates all of Panik's monsters with Swords of Revealing Light, keeping them at bay for 3 turns. Panik draws and plays Chaos Shield (which is actually the Japanese translated name and the real card's name is Yellow Luster Shield), putting his monsters in Defense Mode and raising their DEF.

(The real card just raises their DEF by 300.) Can Panik last just 2 turns? Does he have the courage? Yu-Gi-Oh plays Gaia the Fierce Knight (2300) in Attack Mode and uses his face down Polymerization for Gaia the Dragon Champion (2600) in Attack Mode. Panik plays Metal Guardian (2150 to 2795 by the FPB) in Defense Mode and that was the last turn. Yu-Gi-Oh plays Catapult Turtle (2000) in Defense Mode and puts Gaia on it, raising its ATK to 3200 (The real card doesn't do anything to the monster.)

The launch only destroys CoDI's flotation ring and leaves Yu-Gi-Oh down to 300 LPs (apparently this being based off from the manga featuring this duel). Panik says he'll win on the next turn but there is no next turn because of what Yu-Gi-Oh's moves have done. Yu-Gi-Oh simply ends his turn and Panik's monsters are destroyed, winning the duel and sending Panik to (possibly) the Shadow Realm while remaining unscathed from his Millennium Puzzle. Mai is left speechless and at refuses to take them, saying she fights her own battles. Joey decides to take them but gives them back, explaining the lesson learned. Mai wants to repay Yu-Gi-Oh and when they do duel, it'll be an honorable one, something Yu-Gi-Oh looks forward to.
