Episode 84: Playing Defense
In Astral World, Astral recalls the events of the duel and what unfolded thereafter and knows the Barians are going to make a critical move. If Yuma holds back, he won't have the power to defeat the Barians. At the hospital, while Yuma remains upset about what he did, Shark looks on with anger and sadness. The others arrive and Yuma gets an earful from Kari before she heads off to work. Rio never said Shark was sleeping and opens the curtain but Shark wants the curtain closed so he forgets he's next to a wimp. That night, Yuma dreams of the duel and Shark has had enough but his anger wakes up a nurse, whom orders to keep things quiet. The next day, Hart wants Kite to go see Yuma but Kite says nothing until Hart starts to walk away and agrees to go.
Back at the hospital, Yuma is out for a bit but without his key so Shark takes it and leaves a note to get Yuma to duel for the key. The duo meet on a helipad and Yuma must defeat Shark to get his key back. After duel preparations take place, Yuma draws and sets a monster, leaving Shark in disbelief at how pathetic Yuma has become. With that, Shark hands Yuma back his key and Yuma puts it around his neck before Shark uses Fish Spawn to pay 1000 LPs and Special Summon 2 Fish Tokens, bringing his score down to 3000. Next he Tributes them for Big Whale (1000) in Attack Mode. Due to Big Whale's effect, Yuma's hidden Gogogo Golem is revealed (1500) in Defense Mode and Shark can play a Level 4 or lower WATER monster like Drill Barnacle (300) in Attack Mode. Next he uses Tri-Slice to tribute BW and Special Summon 3 Starfish (300 x3) in Attack Mode.
With that done, Shark uses 2 Starfish as Xyz Material for Submersible Carrier Aero Shark (1900) in Attack Mode, then uses his last monsters as Xyz Material for Black Ray Lancer (2100) in Attack Mode. Now he uses SCAS' effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself and deal Yuma 400 damage for each card in his hand, making Yuma take 800 damage and bring him down to 3200. Furthermore, Shark uses BRL's effect to detach an Xyz Material from itself and negate GG's effects. His attacks take out GG and leave Yuma down to 1100 LPs. Yuma assures the duel isn't too much and gets to his feet before drawing and playing Gogogo Giant (2000) in Attack Mode. Next he uses Gogogo Giant's effect to revive Gogogo Golem in Defense Mode, the put itself in Defense Mode.
Furthermore, he activates Gogogo Talisman to prevent their destruction in battle and with two Gogogo monsters on Yuma's field, he cannot be damaged by card effects. (The real card only prevents one Gogogo monster from being destroyed in battle once per turn.) Shark protests that nothing will save Yuma and Yuma will never win another duel because he's is a coward. Shark draws and plays Panther Shark (1100) in Attack Mode without Tribute since Yuma controls 2 or more monsters. Due to PS' effect, Shark can Special Summon Eagle Shark (1000) in Attack Mode from his hand. After that, he uses PS and ES as Xyz Material for Shark Fortress (2400) in Attack Mode. Then he uses Sharkify to make BRL a Shark monster and have it gain 400 ATK to 2500 (though the card's Japanese lore indicates it gives the equipped monster 300 ATK). After that, he uses BRL's effect again to negate Gogogo Giant's effect.
Yuma survives the attacks but Shark uses SF's effect multiple times to detach an Xyz Material from itself each time and let another of his monsters attack again. (The real card can only use its effect once per turn but can even let itself attack again.) By the time Shark launches his 2nd attack with BRL, Yuma has realized that he's been holding back this entire time. Astral appears having heard Yuma say what he'd been waiting to hear and Yuma brings out Gagaga Gardna (1500) in Attack Mode since he's being attacked directly, then uses GG's effect to discard 1 card and prevent its destruction in battle, leaving him down to 100 LPs. Shark ends his turn so Yuma draws and plays Ganbara Knight (0000) in Attack Mode.
Next he uses his monsters as Xyz Material for Heroic Champion - Excalibur (2000) in Attack Mode. Then he equips it with Magnum Shield to give it ATK equal to its DEF, giving it 2000 ATK to 4000. Since it's not enough, Yuma uses HCE's effect to detach all its Xyz Materials to double its ATK to 8000. (The real card's ATK only becomes double its original ATK by this effect, which'd be pointless here as Yuma has already made that happen.) His attack takes out SF to win the duel and Shark knows he accomplished what he set out to do. Shark gets to his feet before Yuma can reach him and protests that he didn't do it to help Yuma but while they argue, Astral makes his latest observation about friendship.
