Episode 90: The Race to Escape (2)
In the mines, Kalin is racing ahead and manages to keep the guards at bay until they see that Nico and West's father has a collar on and proceed to activate it. However, Kalin jumps out of the cart and intercepts to deactivate the collar but one of the guards plays rough and forces Kalin into the rocky wall, leaving Kalin to be thrown into the air and just barely clinging on. With the help of their father, Kalin is brought back into the cart where Kalin once again enters a guilt trip before their father explains his own story. He believes Kalin can still fight and see light. Meanwhile, Lawton's draw doesn't give him a Trap or Speed Spell but does provide him a monster and tributes Gatling Ogre for Big Cannon Ogre (2400) in Attack Mode.
In spite of having weaker ATK, Lawton attacks with BCO, then activates Skill Successor's 2nd effect from the Graveyard to remove itself from play and give BCO 800 ATK this turn, putting its ATK up to 3200 and taking out Turret Warrior. Due to BCO's effect, Yusei takes twice the normal Battle Damage, bringing his score down to 400. Since Lawton's turn is over, his monster's ATK returns to normal and Yusei needs to turn things around or he's never getting out. Back in the mine cart, Kalin and their father hatch a plan but the guards decide to switch the track's points to a path leading to a broken track but their father has another idea and decides to break the switch's controls and change it manually.
Despite Kalin's protest, their father leaps up and grabs onto the lever for the switch and manages to change the track's direction with minor trouble from the guards but ends up falling to his doom anyway. Kalin and the kids hijack a Duel Runner and take off, ordering the kids to stay strong but lightens up when there's no change in their sobbing. While they race off, Yusei draws and uses Speed Spell - Fallen Synchron to Synchro Summon a Synchro Monster by removing Synchro Materials in his Grave from play since he has 5 Speed Counters. He removes Sonic Chick and Quickdraw Synchron from play for Drill Warrior (2400) in Attack Mode. Next he uses DW's effect to halve its ATK to 1200 and attack directly but Lawton uses Explosive Wall from his Graveyard to remove from play Drill Warrior and all of his own cards on the field.
To their surprise, Kalin is riding near by and manages to push Lawton aside before Lawton detonates the mines and sends everyone flying. They all land motionless on the ground with Kalin and Yusei in a crevasse, while Lawton gloats that they're toast. Meanwhile, Malcom awakens to find that not only is he tied up but Barbara is married to Lawton so what belongs to her belongs to Lawton as well. Confident they'll get away with it, Lawton knocks Malcom to the ground. Yusei and Kalin eventually come to and Kalin is back on his guilt trip before they head back to where they were before.
Kalin places the father's necklace on a Duel Disk and just when he's given up finds it still has power and changes his mind. Attacking the Duel Disk to his arm, Kalin will fight for those that have lost their freedom and show others that take advantage that justice has a name and a face and Yusei is backing him up. There's a new sheriff in town and it's time to save those kids!
