Episode 89: The Race to Escape (1)
As the kids make off with Yusei's Duel Runner, they believe that Yusei will be tougher with his Duel Runner but they just have to find him. At the mines, Yusei and Kalin are working when the siren signals the end of their shift and it's their chance to escape as Yusei removes his collar, then Kalin's with a little extra force. The duo sneak out while two guards gloat at their intelligence. Kalin has stated before that he doesn't want to be freed and the two of them struggle before cascading down a small cliff to the place where Yusei first arrived when he came to town. It's Kalin's fault these people lost their freedom as he beat them. Just then, they spot West and Nico, Kalin's kids, are moving upwards when Yusei picks up on a noise they make.
The duo rush over to learn the news but Kalin is not happy about it. Nico and West decided to help because without Kalin, they wouldn't have a chance and by chance they mean to rescue their father. Yusei realizes that one of the men that got caught must've been their father and West convinces Yusei to go for the others too but Kalin is not willing to do so as it's very risky. Nevertheless, the group are caught as Duel Runners arrive so Yusei decides to Turbo Duel with Lawton while Kalin, West and Nico go another way. Lawton starts the duel by playing Gatling Ogre (800) in Attack Mode, a monster all-too-familiar to Yusei as he recalls the last time it appeared.

In response, Yusei discards Effect Veiler to negate GO's effect this turn but Lawton still sets 5 cards to end his turn, leaving Yusei suspicious. Yusei draws and discards Sonic Chick for Quckdraw Synchron (700) in Attack Mode but before he can make another move, Lawton activates Narrow Tunnel to prevent both players from Summoning more than once per turn and forcing the owner to destroy monsters until they have only 1 if they control more than one monster. Yusei sets 2 cards to end his turn, knowing that it's over if Lawton gets another Trap Card next turn.
In the caves, Kalin, West and Nico are racing to get away but the guards are closing in. Luckily, Kalin sees a cart and they all manage to get in and continue on, forcing the guards to push faster. Back at the duel, Lawton draws a monster, then uses GO's effect to deal 3200 damage to Yusei, bringing his score down to 800. Next he sends GO to the Graveyard for Full Armor Ogre (1600) in Attack Mode. His attack takes out QS but Yusei uses Desperate Tag to make the battle damage 0 and Special Summon a Level 4 or lower monster from his hand like Max Warrior (1800) in Attack Mode. However, since FAO destroyed a monster in battle, Yusei takes 1000 damage but Yusei counters with Return Marker to negate the damage and deal Lawton damage equal to his monster's ATK, bringing Lawton down to 2400 LPs. Still, Yusei is down to 800 LPs so all Lawton needs is a Speed Spell to win using Speed World 2's effect.
In their mine cart, one of the guards decides to activate their Duel Runner's weaponry to destroy the cart but West throws boulders at him, causing him to fall back. West's courage is all thanks to Kalin, in spite of what Kalin has done in the past. As the guards return for another round, Kalin gets the cart to make a sharp turn, leaving the guards to crash. The trio's journey takes them to a turntable of sorts that in turn dumps them out of the cart and down a slope to a landing. The guards catch up and force them to surrender and as they return to the mines, Kalin orders West and Nico to find another cart and get out when he gives the signal.
The signal is given as Kalin takes down the guards. The kids stop when they find their father and insist he goes with them. They all get into the cart and head off with the guards following suit in their Duel Runners. At the duel, Yusei draws and tributes MW for Turret Warrior (1200) in Attack Mode and due to TW's effect, it gains MW's ATK as MW is a Warrior, putting TW's ATK at 3000. His attack not only takes out FAO to leave Lawton down to 1000 LPs but also lets Lawton bring back GO in Attack Mode by FAO's other effect. No matter what Lawton draws next, turn, it's game over for Yusei!
