Episode 73: Synchro Straits
We find Yusei in the midst of a duel where he gets down to 300 LPs before drawing and summoning Debris Dragon, then Sonic Chick by DD's effect and using them and Shield Warrior as Synchro Material for Stardust Dragon but his opponent becomes the Ghost and his Tiger Dragon becomes Machine Emperor Wisel, which in turn takes Stardust Dragon. However, we find it's all a nightmare (and why I didn't highlight any of the cards here, nor will they appear below) and Yusei doesn't know what it all means. The next day, he tells Jack about his desire to duel without Synchro Monsters as the Ghost will just take them. In spite of Jack protesting that Synchro are fine, he accepts the challenge and the group head out to the track.
Once the duel preparations are over, as a mysterious figure watches, Yusei draws and summons Shield Wing (900) in Defense Mode, then sets 1 card to end his turn. Jack is not impressed and plays Twin-Sword Marauder (1600) in Attack Mode, which can attack twice if attacking a monster in Defense Mode and inflicts the difference as battle damage to the opponent. The attacks put Yusei down to 2600 LPs. Furthermore, Jack Special Summons Sword Master (1200) in Attack Mode since his other Warrior couldn't take out Shield Wing and attacks with it, leaving Yusei defenseless and down to 2300 LPs. Yusei draws and summons Junk Synchron (500) in Defense Mode, then uses its effect to bring back SW in Defense Mode without its effects. Furthermore, Yusei can now Special Summon Backup Warrior (2100) in Attack Mode since he controls 2 Defense Position monsters. After that, he uses Synchro Deception to send Junk Warrior in his Extra Deck to the Grave as he controls monsters that could be its Synchro Materials and give BW half its ATK to 3250. His attack takes out Sword Master and leaves Jack down to 1950 LPs.
With nothing left to do, Yusei ends his turn, returning BW's ATK to 2100. Jack draws and summons Dark Bug (100) in Attack Mode, letting him bring back SM. Next he uses his monsters as Synchro Material for Red Dragon Archfiend (3000) in Attack Mode. His attack takes out BW and leaves Yusei down to 1400 LPs. However, Jack knows this duel is over and ends it himself before taking off. Yusei senses someone is there and remains focused at the World Racing Grand Prix Gala. Carly is there to do a story on the biggest event of the season. However, there's no sign of Jack but he comes in with a tailored suit, explaining that Carly thought he'd look handsome.Lazar breaks the conversation to welcome them to the event that is in honor of the completed Daedalus Bridge that connects Satellite and New Domino City.
The MC comes on next to announce the arrival of a new duel course under construction that is reserved for finalists. Lazar heads into the directors' room to report the news and they know that once they harvest enough duel energy, it'll be too late for them to be stopped. A trio of duelist approach, as one of them introduces the group as Team Unicorn and Crow is quick to note that they have every dueling record imaginable. Just then, a duelist on a Duel Runner crashes through the glass roof and demands entry into the tournament or he'll get it canceled and is not stopped by Trudge's army of cops. Revealed as Debacle, he takes aim at Akzia, whom in turn summons Black Rose Dragon and manages to flip his Duel Runner but Debacle gets right back up and scurries away.
While two of the directors question Akiza's status as a duelist, the third goes to end the charade, which has moved onto the streets where the Ghost approaches and wreaks havoc on Debacle. Yusei and crew race to go out and put a stop to it but the man from earlier blocks their way as they won't be able to find the Ghost before the duel is over. Yusei needs to find what he's looking for, the Synchro Solution and the man reveals himself as Visor. How do they know they can trust Visor? They must duel and find out!
