Episode 69: A Duel with Interest
At a house a group of people are rummaging through and begging a man revealed to be named Don Pierro to give them more time but owing Don Pierro means he owns you. Elsewhere, Yusei is working when a kid revealed as Marco appears, asking to pick up a few items with nine other stops to come. While he waits, he's excited over Yusei's project but gets what he came for and leaves. Outside, Yusei finds Crow, whom is hoping that it's not another bill collector that was at the door and realizes how hard it is to make a living and train for the World Racing Grand Prix before telling about Jack's problem.
Meanwhile, Jack is pressuring the waitress for his Blue-Eyes Roast coffee but after delivering it, she's behind the wall, confident no one else loves him like she does but Carly's voice proves her wrong and leaves her angry. Carly asks about the statue but Jack is unfamiliar and when told about it, he doesn't buy the story behind it. Crow arrives to bring up the issue at hand but Jack tries to diffuse the situation unsuccessfully. Jack could learn a lot from Marco, whom works day and night to feed his family. Crow lays down a challenge and despite his claim, Jack has no luck at obtaining a long-lasting job. That night, while he throws boulders in the river, Carly tries to lure him with food but instead Jack moves to the statue where Marco is already there.
Marco his deck and hoping the statue can grant his wish to be out of Don Pierro's grip. Jack doesn't know anything about Don Pierro and learns of his dirty ways. Marco's brother Mikey arrives and sees right through his excuse but learns how important their way of life really is. They can't keep living this way and walk home before their mom worries. Jack decides to take up on that wish by dueling using the Deck.He barges into Don Pierro's house and demands to duel for the contracts. In spite of what Don Pierro adds for Jack to relinquish should Jack lose, Jack accepts. Feet away, Yusei and Crow are looking for Jack but they find him much sooner and learn of what's at stake. Marco is also brought in and learns that the duel is to fulfill his wish.

Don draws and activates Upstart Goblin to draw 1 card and give Jack 1000 LPs to 5000. Next he Special Summons Nefarious Trader (0000) in Attack Mode since Jack has more Life Points (not Attack Points as Don says from 13:25 to 13:28 into the US episode). Next he plays Toichi the Nefarious Debt Collector (1300) in Defense Mode and sets 1 card to end his turn. Jack draws, having no intent on paying Don back and Special Summons Power Invader (2200) in Attack Mode since Don has 2 monsters. (The real card's effect is a Normal Summon.) Nevertheless, Don activates Endless Loan to give Jack a Loan Token and his Toichi can deal Jack 1000 damage per destroyed token. Toichi also cannot be destroyed in battle while Jack has a Loan Token but Jack can discard a card to destroy one.
Jack doesn't do business with bullies like Don Pierro and takes out the Nefarious Trader to bring Don down to 1800 LPs. However, destroying NT brings a second Loan Token to Jack's field. Jack refuses to get rid of the tokens and sets 2 cards to end his turn. Don is determined to make Jack pay and draws before equipping Toichi with Illegal Business Practices to double the effect damage deals per destroyed Loan Token. Next he uses Toichi's effect to deal 4000 damage to Jack for the 2 Loan Tokens. Even so, Jack draws and discards 1 card to Special Summon Smile Kid (0000) in Attack Mode.
This activates EL's effect to give Jack a third Loan Token. Next Jack activates Compulsory Recoil Device to return SK to his hand before Jack re-Summons Smile Kid again. It doesn't make sense until Jack activates Zero Hole (not related to the Gx version) to destroy all cards on the field since he himself has no cards in his hand. Since SK was destroyed, Jack uses its effect to Special Summon Smile Angel (1800) in Attack Mode and wins the duel with its direct attack. Don and his goons run but Jack manages to get the bag with the contracts and tears them up, freeing all those in debt. The next day, Jack once again is booted from another job protesting he did what was asked and the waitress decides to let Carly have him. Crow probably should pick up a double shift tonight.
