Episode 70: The Wicked Spirit
Inside a room, a boy approaches his sister (or cousin) Claire vowing to protect her from any threats. Meanwhile, Luna, Leo and Dexter are in the forest when Leo gets freaked out and claims it's fear of Luna being scared but she's fine so they press on. However, Luna hears strange noises and is drawn to them, ignoring any please from her Duel Spirits. Inside Zora's home, Crow tells Yusei the story of the disappearing kids before heading off to work. Back in the forest, Luna comes to and finds herself trapped until the boy from earlier uses Heavy Storm to destroy the vines. The boy reveals himself as Hayley and invites Luna to come back with him and meet Claire. At daybreak the next morning, Dexter interrupts Yusei in his work to mention Luna's absence and that Leo went to find her. While Leo continues his search, Luna makes it to Hayley's house where Hayley explains that he holds back the wicked spirits with his Deck before introducing Luna to Claire but getting no response from Claire. Hayley is willing to bet that Claire is sleeping having done so since their close call with the wicked spirits some time earlier. Suddenly, Hayley senses someone's arrival and orders Luna to stay in the room. Outside, Leo has arrived but Hayley accuses him of being a wicked spirit and requests a duel. With no alternative, Leo agrees and Luna finds that Claire is a doll. The duel begins as Hayley draws and plays Circle of Life to prevent either player from using Spell Cards unless they send another Spell Card in their hand to the Graveyard. Next he discards another Spell card to activate Circle of Terror, preventing both players from Summoning without sending a monster in their hand to the Graveyard. Then he sends his Sleepy Beauty card to the Grave, triggering its effect to reduce the Level of a Zombie-Type monster in his hand by 1. Now he plays Hollow Spirit (1200) in Attack Mode as it's Level 4. Due to HS' effect, Leo takes 800 damage since Hayley has a Zombie-Type monster in his Grave, bringing Leo down to 3200 LPs. Leo draws and Hayley's Mirror Prison card forces Leo's discarded monster to have the same type as the monster he plans to Summon or it can't attack. Leo sends Morphtronic Datatron to the Grave to summon Morphtronic Scopen (800) in Attack Mode. Then he plays Morphtronic Videon (1000) in Attack Mode by its effect and uses his monsters as Synchro Material (due to Scopen being a Tuner but they don't tell you that) for Power Tool Dragon (2300) in Attack Mode. Then he uses PTD's effect to get a random Equip Spell to his hand. (The real card lets you choose 3 Equip Spells from your Deck and your opponent then chooses 1 of these for you to keep while the other two are shuffled back into the Deck.) He then sends Morphtronic Cord to the Grave to equip PTD with Break! Draw! Yusei arrives and learns of the situation before Leo attacks and destroys HS to leave Hayley down to 2900 LPs and letting Leo draw 1 card by BD's effect. Yusei plows into the house and finds a picture of two kids that would match Crow's story but they're still here. Back outside, since HS was destroyed, Hayley can now bring out Hollow Ghost (2600) in Attack Mode. Upstairs, Luna finds Claire talking to the sprits as Leo sets 1 card to end his turn. Hayley draws and attacks with HG but Leo uses PTD's effect to send BD to the Grave to prevent his monster's destruction, leaving him down to 2900. However, this activates HG's effect to make Leo take 600 damage to bring his score down to 2300. Next, Hayley discards a Spell and a monster to deal Leo an additional 1200 damage to leave Leo with 1100 LPs. While Yusei discovers souls trapped in cards, Leo draws and activates Morphtronic Impact Return to shuffle 1 Morphtronic monster in his hand into his Deck to return both CoL and CoT back to Hayley's hand. Back in the house, Yusei finds the door trapping Luna as well as Claire but the doll has a card with it and while they figure out what it means, Hayley uses HG's other effect to deal Leo 600 damage to leave his score down to 500 (though the cards were sent back to his hand not to the Graveyard). Leo draws and uses his monster's effect to get and play Power Pickaxe to remove from play the HS in Hayley's Grave to give PTD halve its ATK to 2900. Since there's no Zombie-Type monster in Hayley's Graveyard, HG's ATK drops to 0. His attack with PTD destroys HG to win the duel. Hayley wasn't strong enough to defeat the wicked spirits but Luna comes out to say they aren't wicked at all and reunites with Leo while Hayley does the same with Claire. Luna explains that the card they found earlier appeared as a result of Hayley losing control of the duel and will now bring closure. After saying thanks, the duo float up into the sky and disappear along with the house and everyone trapped is freed and appears. All the spirits wanted was two kids to play with and the other spirits were never bad at all. Leo is feeling much less scared and has a good laugh when joking around with his friends.
