Episode 44: Surely, You Jest (2)

As the sun sets, Yusei and Akiza chat about the victory over the Dark Signers while Leo and Luna marvel over the event itself and Jack gazes at the remains of Carly's glasses, determined to find her but is interrupted by Mina mentioning an event in the Satellite. Down below, Lazar insists he's not a Dark Signer and draws, summoning Jester Confit (0000) in Attack Mode and since Jester Lord has company on Lazar's field, its ATK drops to 0. With that, Lazar sets 1 card to end his turn, unwilling to give any secrets about what's happening next. Crow draws and Lazar activates Late Penalty, preventing Crow from attacking since he has no monsters out at the Standby Phase and it's all the more proof for Crow to insist that Lazar is a Dark Signer but Lazar taps into his database of Crow's dueling history and after seeing Fake Feather, starts to strategize. Crow takes advantage of having no monsters by playing Blackwing - Sirocco the Dawn (2000) in Attack Mode. Next he sets 1 card and uses the Spell (not Trap as he says from 6:10 to 6:12 into the US episode) Reload to return all cards in his hand to his deck and redraw the same amount. After that, he sets 1 card to end his turn.

Before Lazar draws, his Jester Confit's effect activates, forcing both players to return a monster to the hand and Lazar must choose his Confit, leaving Crow to return StD back to his hand, leaving him defenseless and raising JL's ATK to 5000. Crow starts having a nervous breakdown of sorts (though we know he's faking it). Nevertheless, Lazar draws and activates Card of Distrain to select 1 of Crow's face down cards and prevent it from being activated. Convinced that Fake Feather is on Crow's right, he chooses that and attacks but to his surprise, Crow activates his other face down card Fake Feather to discard StD and activate Imperial Manners from Lazar's Graveyard, leaving Lazar defenseless.

However, CoD has another effect, dealing Crow 800 damage since it was not the card that was predicted, leaving Crow down to 1200 LPs. Next, Lazar brings out Jester Confit again and equips it with Spirit Burner, putting JC in Defense Mode and if returned to the hand, Crow will take 600 damage and Crow is put in a tight spot except for the fact that Crow can use his face down Trap Stun to negate the effects of all other Trap Cards out. Next he summons Blackwing - Blizzard the Far North (1300) in Attack Mode and uses its effect to bring back Blackwing  - Bora the Spear (1700) in Attack Mode. Next he uses them as Synchro Material for Blackwing Armed Wing (2300) in Attack Mode and since JC is in Defense Mode, when BAW attacks, it gains 500 ATK and has the Fairy Meteor Crush effect. Crow attacks with it, destroying JC and leaving Lazar down to 1200 LPs. However, the duel has to be cut short as a rumble takes shape and Lazar bolts, giving Crow the victory and taking to the skies before he can be caught to continue the duel.

Crow realizes he should go to and races away on his Duel Runner as a dark cloud fills the sky and follows suit. Meanwhile, the gang see the bigger picture before the feed fails and Jack decides to head out. Angela reports on the story before angry protestors block her view and force her to take a back seat. She contacts Goodwin, demining he come to the area but Goodwin has more important matters to attend to and cuts her off. Mina reports in next to say that they're ready to go but Goodwin wants to have a final word with the group in case it's the last time it can happen. At the meeting, the group learn that Yusei's father built the original Ener-D reactor and they must get to it as it's the source of the negative energy. A helicopter arrives and Officer Trudge is the pilot, happy to learn that Mina is flying too. Before they go, Yusei wants Goodwin to finish the bridge if all goes well but it won't be that easy, yet Goodwin agrees to finish it and the group heads out. As Luna and Leo wave goodbye, Yusei is determined to defeat the Dark Signers.
