Episode 28: A Web of Deceit (2)

Inside their lair, they learn of Yusei's duel with his opponent and Carly gets out of her car to see the duel in progress. His opponent (whom I'll call Grady for consistancy) uses Dark Tuner Catastrogue's effect to destroy Yusei's Junk Warrior as it was Synchro Material. Next he attacks Yusei directly and Yusei's response with a Trap Card is stopped as Frozen Fitzgerald prevents the opponent from activating Spells or Traps when it attacks, leaving Yusei down to 1200 LPs. While Carly struggles to understand what's going on, Yusei draws and activates Descending Lost Star to bring back Junk Warrior (1300) in Defense Mode with its DEF 0 and its Level down to 4. Next he tributes JW for Turret Warrior (1200) in Attack Mode, whom gains JW's ATK (as JW is a Warrior but they don't tell you that), putting its ATK up to 3500.

His attack not only destroys FF and leaves Grady down to 3000 LPs but sends a car in the parking lot careening towards Carly that nearly avoids crushing her. However, FF returns to the field since it was destroyed in battle (The real card requires you to discard 1 card to use this effect and doesn't destroy any monsters.) Grady's monsters are like the Dark Signers, they always win and dark and light are the same but Yusei never got (nor would've ever wanted) the membership. Grady also reveals that the vision Jack and Yusei saw was true as Dark Signers can wipe everything off the map. Nevertheless, Yusei draws and uses One for One to discard 1 card and Special Summon the Level 1 Sonic Chick (300) in Defense Mode. Grady draws and equips FF with Drain Strike, letting FF have the Fairy Meteor Crush effect and dealing Yusei half the Battle Damage and giving himself that amount. His attack doesn't destroy SC by its effect but leaves Yusei down to 100 LPs and his own score up to 4100.

Yusei draws and summons Nitro Synchron (300) in Attack Mode. Next, he brings back Quillbolt Hedgehog (800) in Defense Mode by its effect. Then he uses Graceful Revival to bring back the Level 2 Speed Warrior (900) in Attack Mode. After that, he uses all his monsters as Synchro Material for Nitro Warrior (2800) in Attack Mode. Thanks to NS' effect, Yusei can draw 1 card and he plays the card he drew, Junk Barrage and since a Spell Card was played, NW gains 1000 ATK for its first attack, putting its ATK up to 3800. His attack destroys FF and leaves Grady down to 1550 (after Junk Barrage's effect). FF reappears but due to NW's effect, it can attack again if the opponent has a monster in Defense Mode and change the attack target to Attack Mode. With that, FF is destroyed again, leaving Grady ton to 1250 from this attack, then 0 by JB's effect.

With the duel over, the shadow field disappears but Carly got the scoop of the century. Grady comes to but has no memory of what happened to him and when Yusei looks through his deck, there's no sign of Dark Tuner Catastrogue. Yusei manages to get out of the building before Sector Security arrives and accuses Grady and Carly of the property damage. Yusei returns to Blister's hideout with the news while Goodwin reviews and discusses Carly's footage but isn't concerned about the Dark Signers, whom spread more bogus info and obtain more members. Rally and Nervin encounter the group and Rally is willing to protest against the group. However, Nervin gets her to quiet down as the newly acquired Dark Signers walk towards them.

When they arrive back home, they see an article doubting Yusei's championship victory. Carly sees the same article and accuses Angela of writing it (now who doesn't have any sources?) but is told to save it for the Interrogation Room. She consults her Fortune Deck once more and gets what she already knows. Back inside Blister's hideout, Yusei isn't turning up anything on the Dark Signers but has to see Goodwin, even after all he's done. Luna and Leo don't want Yusei to go but Yusei has already made arrangements and they arrive quickly. Yusei exits the hideout and it's time for he and Trudge to get going!
