Episode 29: Good Cop, Bad Cop

Outside, Trudge wants Yusei to respect his authority to obtain his protection but Yusei just climbs into a patrol car. Meanwhile, Carly is free to go but is missing her camera amongst the box of her belongings. Worse still, her boss does not approve of her story and is waiting to re-fire her back at the office. Carly is booted out of the facility with the rest of her belongings and her Fortune Deck does not make things better so she decides to get to the bottom of Goodwin's lies. At a red carpet, guests for Atlas Rising appear out of a limozine including Carly, whom sneaks into the barrier where she encounters Angela and gets a remark about her outfit. Next to appear is Misty Tridwell and Carly shows her admiration and gets what she thinks is a smile back.

Goodwin appears and is going to answer several questions about Jack Atlas via the Atlas Rising event. Just before Goodwin leaves, Angela notes Jack not being from Satellite and Jack, whom is watching tosses the vase of rose on the floor, leaving it in pieces. Goodwin takes no more questions and walks away, leaving the crowd angry. As Carly starts to leave, Misty calls her over to read her face for the future.Meanwhile, Yusei is outside the elevator wanting to see Goodwin and Trudge says to be patient as Goodwin is a busy man but Lazar gives Yusei clearance to ride the elevator to see Goodwin. Carly plows into a reporter as she covers live news but both are forced to press on as Trudge arrives, angry about what he's made to do. Once inside, Trudge gets bitten by the "Shadow Spider" and goes evil.

Jack would like to be alone so Mina heads out, saying to call her cell if he needs anything. He's out of his room just as Carly appears but doesn't stop until he sees Trudge and remarks on his new look. Carly recognizes Trudge's new mark and explains to Jack what happened last night. Jack gives Carly the Duel Disk and instructs her to draw and play the cards he asks (as he has a broken arm). The duel preparations get underway as Trudge plays Warm Worm (1400) in Defense Mode. Jack and Carly draw before playing Vice Dragon (2000) in Attack Mode (by its effect but they don't tell you that, nor do they mention that in doing so its ATK and DEF are halved). Then he tributes VD for Strong Wind Dragon (2400) in Attack Mode. Then, due to SWD's first effect, it gains half the ATK of VD (which is 2000 not 2400 as Carly says from 13:44 to 13:48 into the US episode), raising its ATK by 1000 to 3400. His attack destroys WW and leaves Trudge down to 2000 LPs by SWD's other effect. Since WW was destroyed in battle, Jack and Carly must send the next 3 cards of their deck to the Graveyard. With that done, they set 1 card to end their turn.

Trudge draws and plays Shield Worm (2000) in Defense Mode, forcing Carly and Jack to send the top card of their deck to the Graveyard since it was Summoned. Next he sets 1 card to end his turn. Carly and Jack draw before Carly decides to attack and destroy SW, negating SWD's effects (it actually reduces battle damage to 0 but the real card doesn't have this effect). Furthermore, Trudge activates Regret Reborn (Regretful Rebirth in the CG) to bring back Shield Worm in Defense Mode, forcing Jack and Carly to send the top card of their deck to the Grave once more. Nevertheless, Jack and Carly play Twin-Shield Defender (1600) in Defense Mode to end their turn.

Trudge draws and activates Worm Bait to Special Summon 2 Worm Tokens (0000 x2) in Attack Mode. Then he tributes them for Dark Tuner Chaos Rogue (not Catastrogue as you'll soon see) (0000) in Attack Mode. Next he uses it and Shield Worm as Dark Synchro Material for Dark Diviner (2000) in Attack Mode. (The real card is a regular Synchro Monster needing a DARK Tuner monster and non-Tuner Insect-Type monsters. I'd also note that the explanation, which is totally pointless, makes it seem like it's a DARK Synchro Monster instead of a Dark Synchro Monster as they show.) Thanks to Chaos Rogue's effect, since it was Dark Synchro Material, Jack and Carly have to send the next 5 cards of their deck to the Graveyard (and at 18:27 into the episode, the artwork is different, so combined with the effect, this is clearly not Catastrogue).

He attacks, explaining that DD makes its attack target's ATK the same and for every 100 ATK the attack target lost, its controller sends that many cards from their deck to the Graveyard, making Carly and Jack lose the next 14 cards of their deck but Carly shields Jack from the attack as both monsters survive by their effects before SWD's ATK returns to 3400.Jack and Carly draw before activating Mind Trust to tribute SWD and add Dark Reasonator to their hand. Then they play Dark Resonator (1300) in Attack Mode and uses it and TSD as Synchro Material for Exploder Dragonwing (2400) in Attack Mode. Due to ED's effect, it'll destroy the attack target if weaker and hit Trudge with the destroyed monster's ATK. He attacks and uses ED's effect to destroy DD and win the duel. Trudge comes to but like Grady has no idea how he got here but the hallway is a mess. Carly escorts Jack out of the hospital on stretcher, having no clue what she's to do with him now. Up on the rooftop, Rex is ready to show Yusei where he came from, pointing to an unfinished bridge.
