Episode 27: A Web of Deceit (1)

At the Junkyard where they were released, Nervin and crew cannot get the TV they found to work but after some time, the signal comes through and learn of Yusei's championship victory. The press come in with two new faces, a journalist named Carly and a reporter named Angela Rains. Angela cannot talk for long and walks away with a statement that has Carly very angry. Yusei isn't happy about his victory as he feels that a new battle has begun. (The intro gets some new monsters and people but keeps the Hyper Drive intro.) Yusei stands by as Jack is rushed to the clinic for testing. The crowd disapproves of Yusei's victory and accuses of cheating. Yanagi, Tanner and Leo arrive to show Yusei the media before they burst past the barrier.

However, Tanner takes the group through an underground passage and reminds them that the tournament was a set-up. Luna adds that she saw through the light blinding the duel and providing a glimpse of the possible future. The media group arrives outside Goodwin's office and Carly consults her Fortune Telling deck for advice. Goodwin appears and assures that Yusei is a legit victor in the championship and that the final moments of the duel were obscured due to a glitch. However, he knows so little about Yusei that he can't answer basic questions. Carly makes her way through the crowd and barges in front of Angela asking a question to bring up one of her own. Goodwin hadn't seen the glowing of Yusei's arm and suggests that it was Sunlight reflecting the light to her eyes but Carly is unconvinced. Lazar says they'll release an official statement on the duel later on but asks to be allowed through.

Inside her car, Carly puts it on autopilot before her boss comes through asking where she is with his coffee. She explains that a big story has come out and he tells her to get info on Goodwin to possibly get a job. She reviews the footage and confirms what she saw is true. Her car detects a duel and she quickly finds it but after passing it, her car runs out of gas. Meanwhile, in what looks to be a lair, a group discusses that the time has come to make themselves known (and the reference one of them makes is wrong as Shakespeare, "The Great Bard" as he calls it, didn't say what he says Shakespeare said). At Blister's hideout, Yanagi draws out the mark of the Crimson Dragon when fully assembled and explains the legend behind the marks (and Yusei, you have the tail of the mark not the head).

Luna suddenly collapses and attributes it to being tired. The press continues trying to get in but Carly is trying to beat them all. The group from before makes themselves known and uses their speech as a distraction so that a stream of light can make contact. In an alley, one member, bearing a Signer-like mark but a spider, announces that the time has come. Up above, Yusei's mark glows and provides a feeling like never before and the source is soon found. He makes it to the ground and gives chase as the member of the group runs away. Yusei finds him a few floors up and learns that the other person is a Shadow Drone that will only give info through a duel.

A purple fiery circle appears and there's no escape as the Shadow Drone plays Blizzard Lizard (1800) in Defense Mode, then sets 1 card to end his turn. Carly detects the duel in progress but cannot find the direct source of the light. Yusei draws and plays Tuning, letting him add Junk Synchron to his hand and send the top 3 cards of his deck to the Graveyard since JS is Level 3. (The real card just forces you to send the top card of  your deck to the Graveyard and can only select "Synchron" Tuner monsters, which Yusei picked in this case.) Next he summons Junk Synchron (1300) in Attack Mode and uses its effect to bring back Speed Warrior (which was sent there by Tuning's effect) (400) in Defense Mode. Then he uses his monsters as Synchro Material for Junk Warrior (2300) in Attack Mode. His attack destroys BL and leaves Yusei down to 3700 LPs by BL's effect (which SD makes it seem like it activates when it gets attacked). The result has Yusei feeling similar to how Akiza duels but the pavement has suffered damage too.

When SD doesn't respond to Yusei's question, Yusei sets 2 cards to end his turn. SD draws and activates his face down Call of the Haunted to revive BL in Attack Mode. Next he uses two Ice Mirror cards to play 2 more BLs Then he tributes two BLs for Dark Tuner Catastrogue (0000) in Attack Mode. Next, he uses them as Dark Synchro Material to Dark Synchro Summon Frozen Fitzgerald (2500) in Attack Mode. Oops! At 20:08 into the US episode, the card has the wrong stats and also appears to be a sepia toned Synchro Monster Card! (The real FF is a regular Synchro Monster that needs a DARK Tuner and non-Tuner Beast-Type Synchro Materials.) Carly arrives and will soon expose Goodwin's plan but Yusei has to figure out how to defeat the Shadow Drone or he'll never learn the truth!
