Episode 24: Duel of the Dragons (2)

At the duel, Akiza draws and plays Ivy Shackles to make Speed (rather Shield) Warrior a Plant-Type monster. (The real Ivy Shackles is a Trap Card that makes all your opponent's monsters Plant-Type during your turns and lets you draw 1 card if the card itself is destroyed.) Her attack with Rose Tentacles destroys SW and leaves Yusei down to 1200 by RT's first effect. Her second attack with RT by its effect forces Yusei to activate Card Defense to discard 1 card in his hand to negate the attack, then draw 1 card. After more unsuccessful attempts to snap Akiza out of her rage, Yusei draws and summons Junk Synchron (1300) in Attack Mode and uses its effect to bring back Speed Warrior (400) in Defense Mode (and they don't hesitate to remind the viewers the obvious about the card). Next he uses his monsters as Synchro Material for Junk Warrior (2300) in Attack Mode. Then he equips JW with Junk Barrage (which gives it nothing, Yusei) and takes out RT to leave Akiza down to 3900 LPs. Due to JB's effect, Akiza takes half the ATK of RT, leaving her down to 2800 LPs.

While the crowd continues their detest to Akiza, Luna sees a different dueling style in Yusei, like he's holding back to help Akiza. Akiza draws and uses IS' effect to make JW a Plant-Type monster. Next she summons Copy Plant (0000) in Defense Mode and uses its effect to make itself Level 5. Furthermore, with Dark Verger in her Graveyard and a Tuner monster on her field, she can bring back Dark Verger (0000) in Attack Mode. The group minus Yanagi knows what's coming next as she uses her monsters as Synchro Materials for Black Rose Dragon (2400) in Attack Mode, triggering Yusei's mark on his arm. Using BRD's effect, she remove from play her Wall of Ivy to make JW's ATK 0. Oops! From 7:20 to 7:22 into the US episode, it's JW's LPs that drop to 0 but cards don't have LPs, duelists do!

She attacks and Yusei uses Shield Warrior's effect from the Grave to prevent JW's destruction in battle but he still takes battle damage so he activates Spirit Force to make the Battle Damage from the attack 0 and letting him retrieve Junk Synchron from the Graveyard. She sets 2 cards and ends her turn, getting disapproval from the crowd thanks to her attack but she decides to make them stop and Yusei knows he has to stop her before she does something she later regrets. Yusei draws, pleased with the result but holds on to it and plays JS in Attack Mode and retrieves Speed Warrior in Defense Mode by JS' effect, raising JW by 900 to 3200 by its effect. (The real JW wouldn't gain anything here as it only gets ATK from the Level 2 monsters on your field when it's Synchro Summoned and there were none at JW's appearance.)

Then he uses JS and JW as Synchro Material for Stardust Dragon (2500) in Attack Mode. Luna and Leo can't understand why Yusei would bring out a weaker monster (except that JW doesn't have the protection SD has and overall is still stronger than BRD).Akiza has no idea why Yusei would bring out a monster to remind her of the mark on her arm and doesn't need friends since they're all outcasts but Yusei continues to say that he knows Akiza and what it's like to be an outcast as he's from the Satellite. His attack triggers all the marks on the Signers at once and destroys BRD, leaving Akiza down to 2700 LPs but not keeping her from putting on the mask.

Akiza draws and activates Magic Planter to send IS to the Grave and draw 2 cards. (The real card can only send Continuous Trap Cards to the Graveyard.) Next she uses Wicked Reborn to pay 800 LPs and bring back BRD in Attack Mode, bringing her score down to 1900 (she actually calls it Dark Tuning but later calls it what I've made it here) and if BRD is ever destroyed, it comes back during the End Phase. (The real WR negates the effects of its target, prevents it from attacking and will destroy its target if the card leaves the field. Since BRD was Special Summoned, all cards are destroyed but Yusei uses SD's effect to tribute itself and destroy BRD. (The real BRD must be Synchro Summoned to get the effect and it's not mandatory to use the effect.)

Nevertheless, Akiza summons Phoenixian Seed (800) in Attack Mode, then sends it to the Grave for Phoenixian Cluster Amaryllis (2200) in Attack Mode. Her attack with it destroys Yusei's SW, then destroys itself and deals 800 damage to Yusei, leaving Yusei's score down to 400 and tear away part of her own mask. She sets 1 card to end her turn. Since it's the End Phase, both SD and BRD return to their respective fields as Akiza adds Overdoom Line to give BRD 1000 ATK, raising its ATK to 3400. Furthermore, she uses PCA's effect to bring it back in Defense Mode to end her turn. (The real OD gives all Plant-Type monsters Special Summoned to your field the ATK boost and the card is destroyed after your 2nd Standby Phase.) Yusei draws and thinks up the winning combo before changing SD to Defense Mode and equipping it with Prevention Star, letting him stop PCA from attacking or changing its battle position.

Akiza activates Synchro Back to remove from player BRD to resummon it next turn but Yusei sets 1 card to end his turn.Akiza draws and gets her BRD back by SB's effect before Yusei tries again to convince her that the pain is trying to link them together. Is Akiza supposed to embrace the anger and torture she's been dealing with? She wants no more of it and uses BRD's effect but once again, Yusei uses SD's effect. However, Akiza still has a monster out that can now attack with the absence of PS. However, Yusei activates Cosmic Blast to deal Akiza damage equal to SD's ATK since it left the field, winning him the duel and removing Akiza's mask fully. Sayer steps in to protect her, saying Yusei caused enough damage for one day. Yusei has done his part and Akiza gives thanks in spirit.
