Episode 22: The Profiler

From his office, Goodwin announces that Greiger will get the help he needs for his "nervous breakdown" as he is escorted away but Greiger makes Yusei promise to take down Goodwin once and for all, Meanwhile a man has books piled up all around him as Lazar reminds him, revealed as Commander Koda that his duel is starting soon but Koda can't be bothered as he has over 1000 duels to analyze to complete his Black Rose profile and they'll know for sure whether Akiza is a signer or not after the duel. Goodwin replaces his torn glove with a new one and explains that his arm is the result of an accident several years ago.

Akiza recalls a conversation he had with the man we've been seeing before her duel gets announced. Yusei remains in his garage fixing his runner, certain that Akiza is more dangerous than a mere witch. With announcements made, Akiza takes the first turn by summoning Violet Witch (1100) in Attack Mode. Next she plays Black Garden and sets 1 card to end his turn (and any ATK that isn't 0 will be automatically halved). Koda isn't impressed by her moves as it was already predictable and sets 1 card to end his turn, explaining that Akiza has telekinesis. Lazar enters to add that Koda is an expert at exposing the truth and is expected to do the same with his duel. Akiza draws, not too thrilled with her draw and attacks directly, leaving Koda down to 2900 LPs. Koda remembers a similar attack at Duel Academy (clearly a GX reference as there's nothing else with that name in the Yu-Gi-Oh series), explaining where he and she were back then and what happened as a result of the duel.

Koda wants Akiza to pay up and activates Crime and Punishment to destroy VW since it attacked, triggering VW's effect to let Akiza add a Plant-Type monster to her hand from her deck (with 1500 or less DEF but they don't tell you that). C&P's other effect lets Koda summon Agent of Hatred (0000) in Attack Mode, letting Akia get a Rose Token by BG's effect. However, Koda wanted to use AoH's effect and does so, giving him back LPs lost from one attack's Battle Damage, returning his score to 4000. Akiza draws and plays Phoenixian Seed (0000) in Defense Mode, giving Koda a Rose Token and without any ATK to take away either (actually it does, 800 to be exact) and activates Rose Flame to deal Koda 500 damage whenever a Plant-Type monster is summoned to their field, dealing 500 damage to bring Koda down to 3500. Koda remembers the combo when Akiza was five and learned about her curse. Akiza protests that she's working to control her powers but when the duel ends, he's taking her to a special facility to deal with her powers.

Koda draws and activates Mind Monster to declare a card name and if Akiza has it, she takes half its ATK as damage. Since he knows she has Black Rose Dragon, he declares the name and Akiza takes 1200 damage to leave her down to 2800 LPs. Next he switches his Rose Token to Defense Mode and ends his turn. Akiza draws, declaring that Koda will regret calling her a cheat and knows that while no one understands her, she can't have a normal life and hoped dueling found her someone to help her and he found Sayer, the man we've been seeing. First she uses PS' effect to send itself to the Graveyard for Phoenixian Cluster Amaryllis (1100) in Attack Mode, triggering BG's effect to give Koda another Rose Token and RF's effect to deal Koda 500 damage and bring him down to 3000 LPs. Next, she attacks with PCA, bringing Koda down to 2700 LPs (though his LP meter at 15:07 into the US episode remains full even though it was right before). However, PCA is then destroyed and Koda takes 800 damage, bringing him down to 1900 LPs. Furthermore, Koda gets back 300 LPs by AoH's effect, bringing his score up to 2200.

Now that it's the end of her turn, Akiza uses her PCA's other effect to bring it back, giving Koda another Rose Token by BG's effect and dealing him another 500 damage by RF's effect, bringing his score down to 1700. Koda knew he'd get Rose Tokens and tributes all three for Mad Profiler (1300) in Attack Mode, giving Akiza a Rose Token by BG's effect. Next he uses MP's effect to discard a Spell Card (Reload) to the Graveyard and remove from play Akiza's Black Garden, returning MP's ATK to normal. Next he uses MP's effect again to discard a Monster Card (Mind on Air) and remove from play Akiza's PCA. His attack destroys Akiza's Rose Token and leaves Akiza down to 1000 LPs. Then he equips MP with Destruction Insurance to deal Akiza half its ATK as damage if MP is destroyed. Oops! As Tanner explains Akiza's situation from 18:23 to 18:29, he says she's down to her last few ATK points instead of LPs! Now he equips MP with Lightlow Protection to destroy MP if its ATK changes.

Akiza draws and plays Night Rose Knight (Twilight Rose Knight in the CG) (1000) in Attack Mode. Next she is uses it and her Rose Tokens as Synchro Material for Black Rose Dragon (2400) in Attack Mode. Then she activates its effect to remove from play a Plant-Type monster in her Graveyard and make MP's ATK 0. However, LLP's effect activates and destroys BRD but now it's 100% official that Akiza is a Signer. Akiza still has one face down card left, one Koda couldn't profile, Rose Curse, and she uses its effect to win the duel and damage the playing field. Akiza will move on to the finals and face Yusei Fudo, whom may be in for his toughest match yet!
