Episode 18: Return to the Spirit World (1)

In his cell, Lazar tells the Professor that he needs help with the next duel and suggests some track lighting for the room. The professor reveals himself as part of Illyaster and asks how he can help and is told to help unleash the powers of a possible Signer (and we learn that the Professor lost his last match on purpose for this situation). At the Fortune Cup stadium, as Yusei makes laps, the group realize that Yusei won his duel but Leo adds that he taught Yusei the winning moves, which weren't there when he, rather Luna, lost. The MC breaks their train of thought with an announcement of the Loser's Bracket, giving Luna a second chance to duel. As Leo gloats more, the MC turns down the lights

to announce Luna's participation in the next duel but she's frozen in shock. She can't duel and they don't understand about when Duel Spirits come to life in her duels. Nevertheless, she figures the only way to prove it is to duel and takes her spot on the field. In their room, Goodwin explains to Jack why Luna is deemed to be a Signer and checks on Zigzix, whom is busy dancing and singing to the show's theme song before regaining his focus on the D-tector, which is showing an increase in energy and will prove Luna being a Signer if its needle passes the yellow area.Goodwin has had enough and turns back to Luna's story where she'd been defeating duelists at age 3. Jack isn't buying it, even when Lazar adds that Luna had said she was in the Duel Monsters Spirit World the entire time she was in a coma. Both duelists appear and the professor greets Luna nicely and has heard much about her. He's even nice enough to let her go first and she does, playing Sunny Pixie (400) in Defense Mode. The professor draws and plays Symmetry Rorschach (1200) in Attack Mode and Luna can no longer focus thanks to its hidden powers. He asks Luna to tell what she sees, getting somewhat more sinister and ends up destroying SP with SR's attack. After achieving to get Luna to want to go back to the Spirit World, he explains SR's effect to force Luna to reveal the top card of her deck and she identifies it as Kuribon before he sets 2 cards to end his turn.

Luna draws and summons Kuribon (300) in Attack Mode, just as the Professor wanted as he activates Light to the Depths, forcing Luna to send the top 5 cards of her deck to the Graveyard, then reveal the sixth card and play it or take 2000 damage. Luna becomes in a trance of sorts as she reveals her cards and plays Ancient Forest, preventing both players from summoning or switching monsters to Defense Mode and destroys the monster at the end of the Battle Phase. (The real card forces all monsters in Defense Mode to Attack Mode but still destroys the attacking monster after the Battle Phase.) The professor wants to visit the Spirit World and Luna finds herself there with tiny fairies flying around. The professor draws and activates Gestalt Trap and uses it to make Kuribon's ATK and DEF 0 and negate its effects. Furthermore, he equips it with Immortal Homeostasis to prevent its destruction in battle and all this is reflected where Luna is. Next he tributes SR for Ido the Supreme Magical Force (2200) in Attack Mode.

With Ido's effect, it'll come back each time it's destroyed but the Professor cannot Summon other monsters on his field. Not only is Luna out of it but Leo is out of it too as Dexter finds no reaction when he taps his shoulder. His attack with Ido doesn't destroy Kuriboh by IH's effect but leaves Luna down to 1800 LPs. The professor gets more demanding and insane, wanting Luna to remember the Crimson Dragon and Ido comes back by its effect. (The real card only comes back during the next Standby Phase that it is destroyed.) Luna draws, taking 300 damage by IH's other effect, bringing her score down to 1500 before choosing to play Sunlight Unicorn (1800) in Attack Mode and equipping it with Horn of the Unicorn to raise its ATK by 700 to 2500. Oops! At 19:57 into the US episode, Sunlight Unicorn is twice the Level it should be! Ido is taken out, bringing the professor's score down to 3700 but a voice calls out to Luna to save the forest from the forces of evil by coming with it.
