Episode 144: The Forbidden Ritual (1) | |
Still at the tree where Jaden was set down to recover, Jaden mentally recalls all that he's done thus far and awakens with a fright. It takes him a bit to realize it was no dream. Aster shares some words of encouragement before realizing that Jaden is developing a fever and sets him back down to sleep. Meanwhile, Adrian has finally found what he is looking for. It's time to break Exodia's seal! Oops! At 3:20 into the episode, the cards aren't even edited at all from their Japanese formatting! Adrian realizes that his friend Echo would be willing to offer her duel energy to Exodia. Elsewhere, Zane and Aster discuss what has happened how little Zane seems to care.
Feet away, A horde of Abare Ushionis are chasing Crowler and Echo. Crowler stumbles and Echo races to help him up but Zane and Aster save them by bringing out Cyber Dragon and Diamond Dude to destroy the Ushionis, then getting an explanation of how Crowler and Echo got here. Where does Aster begin to explain Jaden's state? He finds a locket with Adrian's picture in it and wonders about his relationship to Echo. At a campfire, while Crowler moans about what Sheppard will say about the events that have unfolded, Aster returns the locket and asks about it. Echo admits that Adrian doesn't know how she feels and doesn't want another distraction from Adrian becoming king like he's destined to. A sudden fog rolls in but it's much more than that and they're transported to another part of the dimension. Once there, Jaden awakens again and the group sees Adrian come out from the shadows, wearing the arm Marcel had. Adrian tries to take Echo with him by force but when she won't go, he tries to convince her. Aster and Zane have had enough and Aster demands a duel for the right to take Echo. Adrian feels the area is too dark and moves to where Exodia's power lies along with more light. Zane warns Aster to be careful as Adrian had a reason to put the duel here. Adrian begins with Vortex Trooper (600) in Defense Mode and uses its effect to shuffle 2 cards in his hand into his deck, then draw twice for his turn. Aster brings out Destiny Hero - Diamond Dude (1400) in Attack Mode and uses its effect. Since he got a Normal Spell, it goes to his Grave until his next Main Phase. Next, he destroys VT with his attack, triggering VT's other effect to allow Adrian to draw 1 card since it was destroyed in battle. (The real card lets you draw 1 card just for being destroyed.) Aster sets 2 cards to end his turn. Adrian plays Deep Diver (1100) in Defense Mode and sets 1 card to end his turn. Now Aster is getting suspicious, thinking he should win this duel quickly before Adrian's strategy succeeds. Taking his turn, he first activates the effect of his Destiny Draw card sent to the Grave last round and draws twice. Next he uses DHDD's ability again and once more gets a Normal Spell to send to the Grave. Then, he plays Destiny Hero - Dunker (1200) in Attack Mode and uses its effect to send a Destiny Hero monster in his hand to the Grave and deal Adrian 500 damage to leave him with 3500. (Hmm, at 14:54 into the episode, either they got the card's ATK wrong and they meant to have 1200 be the ATK like the real card or it's the ATK graphic that's wrong and the anime version of Dunker has different ATK like Plasma Vice but something is amiss here.) Aster then activates Clock Tower Prison and 2 Eternal Dread Trap Cards.
With the clock's hands at 12, Aster destroys CTP with Mystical Space Typhoon, triggering CTP's effect to summon Destiny Hero - Dreadmaster (????) in Attack Mode and with DHD's effect, Aster brings back Destiny Hero - Disk Commander (300) in Attack Mode, triggering DHDC's effect as well, letting Aster draw twice. Aster attacks, destroying Deep Diver and leaving Adrian down to 1800 LPs. Going for victory, Aster's 3rd attack is stopped by Adrian's face down Dimensional Prison Counter Trap Card, which removes Dreadmaster from play. (The real Dimensional Prison is a Normal Trap Card.) In addition, because DD was destroyed, Adrian can take a card from his Deck and place it on top. Realizing Adrian's strategy is completing Exodia, he activates Force of Four, preventing either player from having more than 4 cards in their hand, forcing Adrian to discard 1 card. For Adrian's turn, he draws what would've been victory but has to discard it but activates Ritual of the Ultimate Forbidden Lord from his Grave. Despite the others' pleas, Echo heads towards the spot of light for her offering. |
