Episode 106: Jewel of a Duel (1)

From somewhere unknown, a voice asks Jaden why he won't play with them. Meanwhile, on a boat similar to Aster Phoenix, we are greeted to Jim Cook and Axel Brodie by some stranger (who turns out to be Adrian Geko by Thelonius Viper, who enters Axel's room and explains his plans for when they arrive at DA). At the Slifer Red Dorm, Syrus calls for Jaden but Hassleberry is the one that comes down the stairs.

Syrus explains that he got new glasses (which are exactly like his old ones as Hassleberry points out), a new (temporary) uniform and that the new student pep rally is starting. At last, after 3 days of boredom, Adrian  Geko is ready for DA but is DA ready for him? Jaden appears to be in some alternate reality where the female voice beckons once more for Jaden to play with her. Jaden finds out that the entity played with his friends but they weren't much fun and don't answer when Jaden calls to them and end up disappearing.

It was all just a dream, at least Jaden thinks it was and Jaden sees another monster spirit named Ruby Carbuncle, whom is owned by the mysterious stranger Jesse Anderson. Syrus and Hassleberry find Jaden as the duel spirits are briefly playing and Jaden heads off. At the pep rally, Blair gives the DA pledge, then the new students are introduced. (If you listen, you can hear the music played in the original Yu-Gi-Oh series for some of the Battle City episodes). However, Jesse isn't there when his name is called, at least not right away and meanwhile Chazz tells about the Crystal Beast deck Jesse owns.

Viper is now introduced and he decides to hold an exhibition match to celebrate and chooses to have Jaden and Jesse duel with their new "welcome gifts". He himself goes to what looks to be a lair and gets setup. Back at the duel, Jesse plays Crystal Beast Emerald Turtle (Crystal Beast Emerald Tortoise in the TCG) (2000) in Defense Mode and ET complains about large crowds. Jesse sets 1 card to end his turn. Jaden plays  Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin (0600) in Attack Mode and uses his effect to toss out Neos and pick one of Jesse's cards. If it's a monster with 300 ATK or less, it's destroyed. (Last I checked, it destroyed the monster if its ATK was less than the discarded monster, Jaden.)

He picks Ruby Carbuncle, who gets destroyed and Jesse's score drops to 3500. Next he plays O - Oversoul to bring back Elemental Hero Neos (2500) in Attack Mode but Jesse activates Trigger Summon (Triggered Summon in the TCG), letting both players Special Summon a Level 4 or lower monster and Jaden chooses Neo-Spacian Grand Mole (0900) in Attack Mode while Jesse chooses Crystal Beast Cobalt Eagle (1400) in Attack Mode, whom also reacts to the immense crowd.

(CE appears to have a voice very similar to Don Adams, VA for Inspector Gadget). Jaden attacks, destroying Jesse's monsters and leaving Jesse with 2900 but when the smoke clears, two crystals appear as Jesse explains their effects let them come back as crystals (the real cards have this effect but it's optional). If Jaden thinks they're cool now, just wait, his deck is full of surprises. Alexis wants jewels in her deck and Viper, meanwhile, just laughs.
