Episode 86: The Art of the Duel

We are introduced to what looks like a new character, who describes himself and calls himself Orlando. Meanwhile Jaden and Hassleberry are walking up a narrow path as Jaden says he needs to get his game on. They've been searching for an opponent for 2 hours. Syrus complains about not being one of the ones who runs at the crack of dawn. Jaden notices some, er flower petals and Orlando announces that his next victim is Jaden. No one but Syrus knows who he is. He asks Jaden what his stage is and Jaden, with some doubt, says Jaden is his stage name. Orlando asks if Jaden wants eyeliner and whatnot.

Syrus notices Crowler and Bonaparte sitting on a hill, both of which are fans of Orlando. The duel begins as Orlando plays Big Bridge (rather "Kabuki Stage - Big Bridge" according to the Wiki). Next he plays Yoshitsune the Goblin of Beauty (0800) in Attack Mode. Jaden draws and plays Elemental Hero Sparkman (1600) in Attack Mode and attacks but due to YT's effect, she switches to Defense Mode and cannot be destroyed by battle.

Orlando draws and plays Armed Samurai - Ben Kei (0500) in Attack Mode, then equips him with Monk Halberd, raising his ATK by 500. He then switches YT to Attack Mode and plays Dramatic Pose, dropping Sparkman's ATK by 500 and adding that ATK to his own monsters, raising YT's ATK to 1300 and Ben Kei's ATK to 1500. He attacks with BK, destroying Sparkman and leaving Jaden with 3600.

Jaden summons Elemental Hero Wildheart (1600) in Defense Mode, apparently by MH's effect but MH's effect forces the monster to be in Attack Mode. He attacks with Ben Kei again (due to his effect, though as usual, left out), destroying only Wildheart as MH prevents his monster from being destroyed by destroying the Equip Spell itself and deals 500 damage to Jaden, leaving him with 3100. He attacks directly with YT, leaving Jaden with 1800. Then he exchanges his Field Spell for another one called Cherry Blossom Mountain (actually apparently named Kabuki Stage - Cherry Blossom Mountain but was probably shortened for less editing) and Jaden hopes for better luck in this scene. Next, he plays Shizuka the Heavenly Dancer (0300) in Attack Mode and equips her with New Year Drum, which neither Hassleberry, nor Syrus (nor I) know what the card does.

Orlando says that Dramatic Pose's effect now expires, returning YT and BK's ATKs to their originals. Jaden requests and gets a commercial break. After the break, Jaden tells Orlando how he duels for fun, which is where he and Orlando differ. Jaden plays Poly for Elemental Hero Flame Wingman (2100) in Attack Mode and attacks but CBM's effect negates the attack and redirects it to his Shizuka, which gives Orlando 600 LPs, putting his score at 4600, then lets him summon Battle Claw Fox (0800) in Attack Mode due to NYD's effect.

BCF gets destroyed by FW, leaving Orlando with 3300, then 2500. Due to BCF's effect, FW is destroyed but Jaden activates De-Fusion to exchange FW for Elemental Hero Burstinatrix and Elemental Hero Avian (1200) and (1000) in Attack Mode respectively. He attacks with Burstinatrix, moving the attack target to Shizuka, giving Orlando 600 LPs for a total of 3100, then bringing back Battle Claw Fox and making her the target, destroying her and leaving Orlando with 2700, destroying Burstinatrix by BCF's other effect.

Jaden attacks with Avian, whose attack goes to Ben Kei, destroying him and leaving Orlando with 2200. Jaden sets 1 card to end his turn. Orlando draws and plays Pot of Greed, then a new Field Spell called Rough Seas, (rather Kabuki Stage - The Rough Seas) letting him add a monster to his hand and he chooses Gengis Ghan the Emperor Dragon, which he summons (2800) in Attack Mode.

He attacks Avian with it but Jaden activates Feather Storm, switching GG's ATK with its DEF, still destroying Avian but leaving Jaden with 500. Jaden draws, adds and plays Elemental Hero Bubbleman (0800) in Attack Mode via Rough Seas and draws twice with his effect. (" ") Next, he plays Miracle Fusion to summon Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman (2500) in Attack Mode, who gains 300 ATK per Elemental Hero in Jaden's Grave for a total of 3400.

Oops! The Japanese version forgets Wildheart is in the Grave and has the wrong ATK for SFW at 17:31 into the episode! He attacks but Orlando activates Thousand Strings (which he accidently says is being played from his hand), negating the attack and reducing the ATK of all monsters to 0. Jaden plays Quick Summon, letting him tribute Bubbleman and SFW for Elemental Hero Neos (2500) in Attack Mode.

Jaden attacks with Neos, destroying GG and winning the duel. After all of their cheering, Bonaparte and Crowler pack up and leave disappointed. Hassleberry asks Orlando to do his victory dance. (Now instead of adding a line that was clearly censored to not say an inappropriate word, they could've instead said "gut" but oh well.)
