Episode 61: I've Seen the Light

Inside class, while roll call begins, Syrus and Hassleberry trade sighs and argue who misses Jaden most. Hassleberry walks out, barging past Bastion, saying he has a friend to save. Alexis sees Syrus, thinking he's more depressed than Jaden. Syrus cries, saying he's nothing without Jaden. On the water, Jaden thinks it's been 3 days after losing to Aster and is still unable to see his cards. He sees, or thinks he sees, Winged Kuriboh. Chazz tells him to quit moping. Jaden asks why he's here and Chazz says he came out to think and was sick of everyone talking about how much they're worried about Jaden. All he hears is Jaden, Jaden, Jaden. He asks if it's true about Jaden not being able to talk to his monsters. Jaden guesses so and Chazz tells him to snap out of it.

Dueling is all Jaden's really cared about and now he can't do the one think he loved most. Chazz orders him to duel but Jaden isn't interested. In his lair, Sartorius remembers what he did for Aster's duel. He thinks that Jaden's response what most unexpected. When he lost, his mind should've been wiped clean and he should've become his servant. He'll attend to the Jaden matter later and find a new servant. He discovers there is another soul with a gift like Jaden's only much weaker.

The pilot tells Sartorius they are approaching DA. Crowler and Bonaparte are running towards the plane and Crowler says if he had known that Aster's manager were stopping by today, he'd have his coat dry-cleaned. Sartorius lands and Bonaparte offers to make food but Sartorius declines, saying he travels with a chef. What brings Sartorius to DA? Sartorius tells them that he manages top duelists and is always looking for fresh talent. Crowler offers a tour of DA but Bonaparte says he doesn't need a tour, he needs a list of their top students. Sartorius says he doesn't need any assistance. He walks away, saying he has business to take care of.

At the SR dorm, Syrus says to call the guard, Jaden's gone missing. Chazz says it's pathetic. The gang searches but to no avail. In the forest, Chazz says for Jaden to take it from someone who knows that you can run but not escape your problems. The Ojama Brothers appear. Who invited them? Chazz asks them to get lost and the brothers understand, saying that Chazz is just bitter because he misses Jaden. A man appears, saying that Duel Spirits can be quite loyal. He introduces himself as Sartorius to Chazz and says he also has a gift. He has traveled quite a ways to meet Chazz.

Why? Simple, he could use someone like him who is able to talk to monster sprits. He is impressed at Chazz's talent and confidence and suggests Chazz to show him what he has. He manages top duelists like Aster Phoenix. He might even pass him off as one of his clients. He wants to see if Chazz is ready for the pros. Chazz accepts the offer but tells Sartorius that he'll forget about Aster Phoenix when he's done. He asks Sartorius where his duel disk is and Sartorius says he doesn't need one when he has a table. It helps if Sartorius actually looks at his cards. Sartorius says that's not necessarily true.

Chazz then says to watch the show and draws, playing V-Tiger Jet (1600) in Attack Mode. Then he uses Frontline Base, letting him call a Fusion Monster to the field. Oops! It actually lets you call a Union monster to the field, which it has been stated to do in prior episodes and is what he does next. He chooses W-Wing Catapult (1300) in Attack Mode and combines them for VW-Tiger Catapult (2000) in Attack Mode, then sets 1 card to end his turn.

Sartorius draws, predicting and correctly guessing that his top card is Vision, which he activates without saying so. He shows Chazz that his next card is The Hangman. Chazz says he's cheating but Sartorius says he's predicting. He says Chazz will come to realizes his powers in due time and places his card back on the top of his deck and offers Chazz to shuffle his deck. Does Sartorius always act this calm? It's starting to creep Chazz out. Chazz shuffles the deck, saying that he's not everybody.

Sartorius says to get back to the duel and plays Suit of Sword X, whose effect lets him destroy all of Chazz's monsters if right-side up but if upside down, Chazz can destroy Sartorius monsters. The card lands right-side up, destroying VW-TC. If he liked that one, he'll like this and plays Knight of Pentacles (1000) in Defense Mode. Oops! the graphic shows KoP's ATK at 1000 instead of his DEF in the US at 12:36 into the episode! Its effect is when right-side up, it can't be destroyed in battle but if upside down, it's instantly destroyed when attacked. It lands upside-down.

Chazz plays Graceful Charity, drawing 3 and discarding 2. Then he uses Level Modulation, letting Sartorius draw twice and letting Chazz draw a monster from his Grave. (You can't draw a monster from your Grave, you can only summon monsters from your Grave or add them to your hand/shuffle them into the Deck, etc.) He chooses Armed Dragon LV7 (2800) in Attack Mode. He then tributes it for Armed Dragon LV10 (3000) in Attack Mode. Next he activates Ojama Trio, giving Sartorius 3 Ojama Tokens (1000 x3) in Defense Mode. Then he uses AD LV10's effect, tossing a card and destroying Sartorius' monsters. He attacks directly, leaving Sartorius with 100 LPs.

Sartorius flips over a card from his hand and plays it, Selection of Fate, letting Chazz pick a card and if its a monster, Sartorius can summon it. He's making Chazz walk all the way over there again? He walks over but Ojama Yellow says Chazz doesn't want to do this. (It's in the rules of the card, OY, he must do it or negate the card.) He selects the middle card, letting Sartorius play Arcana Force XII - The Hangman (2200) in Attack Mode and dropping Chazz's score to 3000 (apparently the 1000 damage was due to Vision's effect.) With its effect, Chazz  again chooses where the card should stop.

If right-side up, Sartorius loses a monster and LPs equal to the monster's ATK, if upside-down, Chazz loses a monster and LPs equal to his monster's ATK. After some provoking by Sartorius, Chazz agrees to join Sartorius's side. His LPs drop to 0. Chazz's OB race towards him but Sartorius destroys them. Back on the water, Jaden speeds away in a speedboat, hoping to find some answers. On the plane, Sartorius says he finally has The Hangman's spirit. What he really wants is Jaden. The Wheel of Fate card falls to the floor and Sartorius thinks that the tide is turning. The next day, everyone sees that Chazz got a new wardrobe. Chazz has seen the light, the Society of Light!
