Episode 58: A New Breed of Hero (1)

People are snapping photos of Aster, who is being interviewed. The women asks about his new deck and Aster tells her that winning is easy when you have destiny on your side. He then says that a week ago he joined DA and someone has copied his deck. Who wouldn't want to be just like Aster, right? He refuses to announce this "someone's name but he will tell that his name rhymes with "shmaden shmuki". Everyone quickly realizes who shmaden is before Aster says he's challenging shmaden to a duel. Crowler wonders what to wear. At Sartorius' lair, Sartorius says it was a wise choice for Aster to return. Aster tells him that he was right, he must beat Jaden. Sartorius says that the hands of fate chose the duel. He asks Aster to bring his deck to him to open the doors of destiny. With that done, he says that Aster already knew the outcome. Then Sartorius doesn't need to wish him luck. Aster walks out.

Outside DA, Bonaparte asks where Aster is and all Crowler knows is that he's lost all feeling below his chin. Inside the airplane, Aster suits up and jumps out. Inside (Bastion's?) dorm, Bastion mentions that Aster has mastered all sports, has a photographic memory and has a high IQ. Syrus has a photographic memory too, when he loads the film. Shuffling his deck on the bed, Jaden asks them to calm down. He suggests that if they're doing research, he has homework that needs finishing. Syrus tells Jaden that what their doing is important, they're trying to find Aster's weakness, which they haven't found.

(His weakness would be that most of his monsters are weak.) Jaden says they're taking all the fun out of it and sleeps. In the sky, Aster lands as a card thief makes his exit. He challenges the man and wins. Doom Lord appears and attacks the man. Everyone hears the scream, even Bonaparte's aunt in Paris. Aster looks through the cards, then throws them back, saying the man can have them for they're useless in prison. The card near the man's chest has been changed from what looks to be Granmarg the Rock Monarch to Elemental Hero Wildheart (although you can't really see the card in the Japanese version) in the US at 6:33 into the episode.

The gang shows up and Syrus asks who the man on the ground is. Aster tells Syrus it's just a guy who thought crime paid off and was wrong. Bastion asks what Aster has done to him but Aster asks Jaden how he's been. Syrus and Jaden tell Aster to fess up but Aster just smiles. Bonaparte introduces himself and his "personal assistant" to Aster but Aster tells them he's not supposed to talk to management, all business goes through his agent. Guys like him don't need to deal with the little people. Aster will see Jaden bright and early for their duel and other than his friends, no spectators allowed.  He explains that people pay money to watch him duel. He's not letting amateurs get a free show to watch him duel.Jaden tells Aster that many students look up to him. How selfish can he be? Aster asks if Jaden's for real and laughs.

He's got a lot to learn about "the bus". He walks away as Crowler and Bonaparte ask where they can find his agent. They've got business to discuss! The next day, Jaden walks up to the platform. As Aster walks up to his side of the platform, his "cheerleaders" cheer him on. Mindy and Jasmine comment about how Aster waved and winked at them. Alexis says it's pathetic and wants to have a talk with them but Chazz, Syrus, Bastion and Hassleberry prevent her, saying she just wants to sit near Aster.

Bonaparte introduces Aster Phoenix while one of Sartorius' men tell Sartorius that the match is about to start. Sartorius says it's only a matter of time before they acquire their newest member, Jaden Yuki for when he loses he'll see the light! At the dueling arena, Aster thinks he'll show Jaden what a deck of real heroes can do.  The duel starts as Aster plays Elemental Hero Clayman (2000) in Defense Mode and ends his turn. Jaden compliments Aster's nice move and draws, using Poly to summon Elemental Hero Flame Wingman (2100) in Attack Mode. He attacks. Oops! Clayman's an Effect Monster in the US shot at 10:54 into the episode!

Clayman is destroyed and Aster shields himself from the flames. For some strange reason, the third card after Burstinatrix has been changed from Sparkman to Clayman in the US (although it's hard to see in both shots) at 10:57 into the episode. Jaden then explains that Wingman's effect deals him damage equal to Clayman's ATK, leaving Aster with 3200. Aster plays Poly for Elemental Hero Phoenix Enforcer (2100) in Attack Mode. He attacks but only Wingman is destroyed as Bastion explains PE can't be destroyed in battle. Aster tells Jaden their decks are similar not equal.

He tells Jaden to think of their decks like a mirror, each representing who they are. Does Aster have to get so deep? Jaden doesn't believe Aster's deck  is better and plays Elemental Hero Bubbleman (0800) in Attack Mode. After drawing twice by Bubbleman's effect, he plays The Warrior Returning Alive to retrieve Avian from his Grave. Next he uses Poly again to summon Elemental Hero Tempest (2800) in Attack Mode and attacks PE, dropping Aster's LPs to 2500. Aster plays Poly to summon Elemental Hero Shining Phoenix Enforcer (2500) in Attack Mode.

With his effect, he gains 300 ATK for the 5 Elemental Hero monsters in his Grave. Oops! The dubbed version shows VWXYZ in Aster's Grave in the US at 13:56 into the episode!SFE's ATK rises to 4000. He attacks and destroys Tempest, leaving Jaden with 2800. He sets 1 card face down to end his turn. Oops again! At 15:27 into the Japanese version, it shows regular Phoenix Enforcer as Shining Phoenix Enforcer's card art! Jaden uses Pot of Greed. Then he uses Miracle Fusion to summon Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman (2500) in Attack Mode by removing from play Flame Wingman and Sparkman from his Grave. Oops yet again! At 14:52 into the US episode, Sparkman's an Effect Monster when it pops out of Jaden's Grave! SFW's ATK rises to 3700 for the 4 Elemental Heroes in his Grave.

Aster asks if he's done, saying that he would have thought that after that big production Jaden would summon a monster that would accomplish something. Jaden says ATK points aren't everything and plays Light Laser on SFW, so when he attacks, SFE is removed from play. Next he uses Skyscraper, giving SFW 1000 ATK to 4700. (" ") He attacks and destroys SFE, leaving Aster with 1800. (The real SFE can't be destroyed in battle.) He says this is an awesome duel but Aster asks if Jaden thinks it's a big joke.

Dueling isn't about having fun, at least for Aster. Duelists whose use cards just because they look cool make him sick. He says he was destined to build this deck and activate D - Time, letting unleash a new breed of heroes from his deck called Destiny Heroes. (The real card only lets you add 1 Destiny Hero monster to your hand.) Oops once again! The left monster is shown as Zolga in the US at 17:44 into the US episode!

Jaden tells Aster to stop with the dramatic speeches. Aster guesses Jaden doesn't want to hear about the truth. The truth about a series of cards produced by Industrial Illusions called the D Series but not released to the public. Why doesn't he just show Jaden? He plays Clock Tower Prison, which he says is the key ingredient. The clock's hands return to 12 o'clock as he plays Destiny Hero - Doom Lord (0600) in Attack Mode. Jaden says Doom Lord seems weak. (He is weak!) Aster wants to test that theory and activates Doom Lord's ability, letting him remove from play 1 of Jaden's monsters as he would say "two rounds into the future" and he chooses SFW. Jaden says the phrase doesn't make sense. Aster says Jaden has a lot to learn about destiny. Right now, he's controlling Jaden's and it's looking pretty grim!
