Episode 222: The Final Duel (2)

At the duel, Yugi is coming to grips with what Atem's move thus far has done as Atem plays Pot of Greed, raising Slifer's ATK by 1000 to 3000. Those watching have no idea how to help Yugi in his situation and Marik adds that Ra could have almost 15,000 ATK points if Atem used its effect. Kaiba is convinced that Atem is the better duelist and starts walking away and Joey gets him to stop temporarily but it's Yugi's words that get Kaiba to stay and see his strategy play out. Atem and Yugi then share what they've learned from each other and how their decks were built on that.

Yugi draws and his Silent Swordsman gains a Level and 500 ATK to Level 4 and 3000 ATK. Next he discards the three Magnet Warriors in his hand to the Grave for Valkyrion the Magna Warrior (3500) in Attack Mode, activating Slifer's effect to drain its ATK by 2000. However, Yugi is ready with Mirage Spell to negate the effect and give himself 2000 LPs, raising his score to 3400. He sets 2 cards to end his turn. Joey is confused why Yugi would leave his monsters in Attack Mode and Atem realizes that Yugi must want him to attack and draws, raising Slifer's ATK and DEF to 4000. His attacks leave Yugi defenseless and down to 900 LPs but Yugi activated Mirage Ruler to pay 1000 Life Points and not only bring back all his monsters destroyed by Atem this turn but restore his LPs to what they were before Atem's turn, raising his score to 3400, then down to 2400 for MR's cost and bringing back Valkyrion and Silent Swordsman LV4.

With nothing more to do, Atem ends his turn and the others breathe a sigh of relief. Kaiba sees Yugi's move as a stall for more time and has no idea what the God Cards' weaknesses are. Ishizu has a strong hunch that Yugi's next move will turn things around. Yugi thinks about Atem's face down card and what both he and Atem haven't done since it's been set and concludes it's Mirror Force (which makes the card we're seeing when it was first set Dark Mirror Force as the artwork is clearly different). For his turn, Yugi's SSLV4 becomes Silent Swordsman LV5 (3500) in Attack Mode. Next he tributes Valkyrion for Alpha the Magnet Warrior (1400), Beta the Magnet Warrior (1700), and Gamma the Magnet Warrior (1500) in Attack Mode, leaving Kaiba confused. Nevertheless, Slifer's effect activates, just as Yugi wanted as Yugi activates Magnet Force to move Slifer's effect back to the Gods themselves, leaving Slifer, Obelisk and Ra down to 2000, 500 and 3000 respectively. His attack with SSLV5 activates Atem's hidden Mirror Force card, destroying all of his own monsters.

It was all part of Yugi's plan and it's about time he eliminated Atem's God Cards!
