Episode 127: The Darkness Returns (3)

At the duel, Dark Marik tells Joey to make his move and Tea` learns how bad Joey's situation really is. Joey's draw doesn't help either and remembers that Lava Golem deals him 700 damage each turn (the real card deals 1000 damage during your Standby Phases). Joey decides to take his chances and attack and while DM compliments this statement, he also adds that it's over for Joey when he attacks, which he does. DM is ready with his face down Relieve Monster, letting him return 1 monster on the field to his hand, then Special Summon any Level 4 monster from his hand. Tristan protests he has none but Yami reminds him of the Plasma Eel attached to Panther Warrior and with that, DM returns Plasma Eel to his hand, then plays it in Defense Mode. (In the CG, you couldn't do this for it's not on your side of the field.) Next, Helpoemer takes 1 random card (Gamble) from Joey's hand. Finally, Lava Golem deals 700 damage to Joey, leaving his score down to 2200. DM draws and uses Machine Duplication to bring out 2 more Plasma Eels and equips them to Joey's Rocket Warrior and Lava Golem. Next he sets 1 card to end his turn.

Joey's draw yields him Gilford the Lightning but he has to tribute 3 monsters to play it (that's optional with the real card but tributing 3 monsters activates his effect). Joey gets an idea to get rid of MD via Graceful Dice and rolls a six, destroying the Eels attached to his monsters. (The real Machine Duplication is a Normal Spell so Joey's strategy couldn't be used here.) Next he tributes his 3 monsters for Gilford the Lightning (2800) in Attack Mode but DM laughs, indicating that his remaining PE has more ATK but is told of GtL's effect that destroys all monsters on the opponent's field, destroying PE.

Next, he attacks directly but DM activates Nightmare Mirror, making Joey take 1000 damage and stopping GtL's attack by discarding 1 card, leaving Joey down to 1200 LPs and DM just out of reach from GtL's sword and discards Ra by NM's effect. DM draws, laughing with excitement as he uses Monster Reborn to revive The Winged Dragon of Ra (0000) in Attack Mode and Yami can't understand why, given Ra has no ATK but DM transforms it into Egyptian God Phoenix, an unstoppable creature ready to feed Joey to the shadows.

Back in Mai's room, Serenity can't stand being there since Dark Marik can't be trusted. Ishizu enters, learning of why Serenity isn't up with the others and of the duel their brothers are in, then suggests Serenity go up to support her brother while she herself watches over Mai. It takes some convincing but Serenity heads out, leaving Ishizu uncertain of what's to come. Back at the duel, DM calls Kaiba and Yamis' attention for one of them will have to face Ra in the next round. Joey protests that the duel is still on and that Ra has no ATK. However, DM plans to use Ra's ability to destroy Gilford and while without ATK points, Joey will be drained of his energy. He's moments from victory, the phoenix rises tonight!
