Episode 97: Showdown in the Shadows (2)

High in the air, Dark Bakura tells Dark Marik that with Ra now in his hand, he'll win and good Marik will get his body back but Dark Marik protests that he's the one that made good Marik how he is now, reminding them of when he took over to claim the Millennium Rod. Dark Marik plays Vengeful Bog Spirit, preventing all monsters from attacking the turn they are summoned. Dark Bakura protests that it's only delaying his destruction. (They've apparently changed the card to the left of Ra from The Portrait's Secret as shown at 1:29 into the US episode to Dark Necrofear as shown at 2:58 into the US episode, probably to keep consistency for what Dark Bakura does later.)

He tributes 3 of his monsters in an attempt to play Ra but Dark Marik activates Joyful Doom, leaving Dark Bakuras' monsters with 0 ATK and adding their ATK to his own LPs, giving Dark Marik a score of 8550 and leaving Dark Bakura's The Winged Dragon of Ra summoned in Attack Mode with 0 ATK as good Marik reminds DB of what happened prior to Ra's summoning and wasn't aware Dark Marik had Joyful Doom.

DB switches Ra and Puppet Master to Defense Mode (an illegal move only from Ra's standpoint in that in the CG you cannot change a monster's mode the turn it is summoned except with a card effect). Meanwhile, Tea` awakens in Bakura's room but no Bakura so she gets Yugi up to hear the news. Back at the duel, DB tributes his useless Ra for The Dark Ruler (Dark Ruler Ha Des in the CG) (2450) in Attack Mode and Dark Marik says DB will regret giving up on his God Card (and I notice The Portrait's Secret in his hand at 6:27 into the US episode, which undoubtedly is an error but I don't know what it replaced, possibly Black Pendant).

DB allows DM to go ahead and revive his God Card as it'll have no ATK, then removes 3 monsters in his Grave for Dark Necrofear (2200) in Attack Mode. (It actually needs 3 Fiend-Type monsters for its summoning and in this case, he does meet the requirements, though it would've been nice to show the monsters he's choosing to remove for its summoning.) Next he uses Magic Burial (Premature Burial in the CG) to pay 800 Life Points and revive Earl of Demise in Attack Mode, bringing his score down to 1100 (though not shown). DM will think twice about attacking him now but good Marik warns not to be so reckless with their LPs if he wants to win. DB is aware that VBS is still in play so he lets DM go but DM can barely see him from where he's standing. Down below, Yugi and Tea` have had no luck finding Bakura and Yugi figures Dark Marik is behind it.

A little further down, Kaiba tries his Crush Card combo against Ra and learns that it's only a 13% chance of victory. Back above, DM is ready to make his move and good Marik learns how little he knows about Ra's secrets and Kaiba meanwhile is learning them himself and knows how to obtain Slifer but Ra is in its own class. Yugi and Tea` arrive at the top of the airship where DM and DB are dueling and Yugi becomes Yami, trying to convince Tea` to return back downstairs but she won't go. DM uses Monster Reborn on Ra and activates two of Ra's abilities to keep 1 Life Point and add the rest to Ra, giving it a total of 8549 ATK and DEF. DM, now merged mostly with Ra, attacks, winning the duel and obtaining Bakura's Millennium Ring just as Yami enters with Tea` staying back due to having the remains of good Marik's spirit inside. Yami realizes what happened just as DM leaves.

In her bed, Ishizu has a nightmare of Marik, then awakens to see Tea` possessed by good Marik and learns that he needs her help. Elsewhere, DB is inside the Millennium Puzzle, reminding himself of the part of his spirit that has been inside all along. DM returns to Odeon's room to find him missing and figures Ishizu is behind it. Kaiba learns that Ra's abilities were added when the card was created. Mokuba awakens, still in Kaiba's coat, advising Kaiba to get sleep with another round of Finals next day. It's what Kaiba is preparing for. They're on course for Kaiba Corp Island, where the finals will end and a champion will be crowned. It won't be long before he proves to the entire world that there's no on on Earth superior to him!
