Episode 16: Battle with the Black Rose | |||
Inside, Dexter and Luna try cheering up Leo to no avail but Yusei adds Leo knows more now than he did before. Akiza passes through with the least bit of courtesy and we get a hint of events to come given the pause when she's within eye range of Yusei. Meanwhile, Lazar explains to Goodwin and Sir Randsborg (whom speaks in old English but luckily for you, I won't be using it and will translate as best I can) of the pending duel. Randsborg is confident that Akiza will fall and heads out. At the site of the duel, the MC introduces the duelists but has no info on Akiza yet Luna senses a great power in her deck and Leo feels he's seen her before. Randsborg begins with Masked Knight LV3 (1500) in Attack Mode and uses its effect to deal Akiza 400 damage, dropping her score to 3600. Next he uses Level Up! to trade MKLV3 for Masked Knight LV5 (2300) in Attack Mode. (I'll note this once per episode as it comes as Akiza's bust remains unchanged here at 5:04 into the US episode.) Randsborg uses its effect to deal Akiza 1000 damage to bring her score down to 2600 before setting 1 card to end his turn.
Akiza is getting tired of Randsborg's bad accent (rightfully so) and plays Wall of Ivy (1200) in Defense Mode. Next she uses Seed of Deception to Special Summon a Level 2 or lower Plant-Type monster from her hand, like Copy Plant (0000) in Defense Mode. Then she uses CP's effect to make it the same Level as MKLV5, making it a Level 5 monster. (The real Copy Plant only works on Plant-Type monsters.) Dexter and Leo realize a Synchro Summon is going to happen as Akiza sends her two monsters to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Black Rose Dragon (2400) in Attack Mode and its appearance stirs up a lot of wind and uneasiness, especially with Yusei, whom remembers the last time he saw it and Akiza.Akiza uses BRD's effect to destroy all cards on the field, including itself, leaving both of them defenseless. Next she sets 1 card before activating Black Garden to end her turn. Randsborg uses The Warrior Returning Alive to retrieve and then play Masked Knight LV3 in Attack Mode. Due to BG's effect, MKLV3's ATK is halved to 750 and Akiza gets a Rose Token (800) in Attack Mode on her field. Nevertheless, Randsborg uses his monster's effect to deal Akiza 400 damage once more, bringing Akiza down to 2200 LPs. However, Akiza retaliates with Doppelganger (not to be confused with the anime version in the original Yu-Gi-Oh series, which has different artwork and a different effect), dealing Randsborg the same damage she took herself, bringing his score down to 3600. Furthermore, everyone realizes that Akiza's powers are real as Randsborg now has a scar across his right cheek but Randsborg is unphased yet doesn't like the threat Akiza throws his way and sets 2 cards to end his turn. Akiza draws and uses Mark of the Rose to gain control of MKLV3 and the monster physically shows its affection to her (which was weird enough in GX, perhaps more so but it doesn't get better using it here). (The real MotR forces you to remove from play a Plant-Type monster first.) Her direct attack leaves Randsborg down to 2850. Next she equips MKLV3 with Vengeful Servant to deal Randsborg damage equal to his monster's original ATK when it switches to his side of the field (by MotR's effect but they don't tell you that). She ends her turn and Randsborg takes 1500 damage to leave him down to 1350. Randsborg activates Level Change to tribute his regained MKLV3 to bring back Masked Knight LV5 in Attack Mode. Nevertheless, BG halves MKLV5's ATK to 1150 and gives Akiza another Rose Token in Attack Mode. Randsborg draws and uses his MKLV5's effect to trade it in for Masked Knight LV7 (2900) in Attack Mode and it too loses half its ATK, putting its ATK at 1450 and giving Akiza yet another Rose Token. Furthermore, Randsborg equips it with Glory Shield, preventing Akiza from activating Spells or Traps when it attacks and destroying 1 card on the field when Akiza takes Battle Damage from the attack (at least that's what I'm getting from Tanner and Dexters' explanation). His attack doesn't destroy the Rose Token by BG's effect but brings Akiza down to 1550 LPs. (The real BG doesn't prevent the Rose Tokens from being destroyed in battle.) Furthermore, he uses GS' effect to destroy Doppelganger and MKLV7's effect to leave Akiza down to a mere 50 LPs. Inside, Greiger and Yusei discuss Akiza's situation and Yusei feels Akiza is just getting warmed up.
Akiza does have some last words and Randsborg thinks he has it all figured out. Akiza first destroys BG by its effect and uses the last effect to bring back a monster with an ATK equal to the total ATK of her destroyed monsters and brings back Black Rose Dragon, returning MKLV7's ATK to normal. She uses BRD's other effect to remove from play her Wall of Ivy to make MKLV7's ATK 0 and Randsborg loses all his confidence and bad accent. He just wants to go home and Akiza's ATK brings his LPs to 0. Lazar checks with Zigzix but there's nothing from the D-tector so Goodwin says to keep looking. Jack and Yusei grip the arms with their marks and Yusei knew Akiza would win and somehow has a connection to her. Nevertheless, her win is not liked by the crowd. A man watches, having a feeling that Akiza's powers are just getting started and wishes her good luck. |
