Episode 173: Fighting for a Friend (5)

As the gang continue their search, they find themselves unable to locate Joey's Duel.Meanwhile, Kaiba has struggles of his own defeating the Orichalcos Soldiers as they reappear each tim ehe destroys them. Finally, with the help of his prized dragon, he's more successful. Back at the Duel, Joey knows his energy is dropping and struggles to complete his turn but is able to hold off Mai with a Trap Card. Next, he brings out a strong monster that clears Mai's field of monsters and brings Mai on the brink of defeat. Mai comes back strong and leaves Joey in the same state. Joey returns the favor with his legendary dragon and the Equip Card he used to help defeat Rex. However, Mai again destroys Joey's monsters but Joey stays in the Duel thanks to his monster's other effect. Joey's luck finally runs out when he uses a Trap Card to weaken Mai's monster. Mai is set to win but is unable to complete her announcement of her final attack. Joey's time has run out anyway. His energy has run out and loses his soul as a result. Mai on the other hand is brought to tears and breaks free from Dartz's control.

Deviations from the TCG
1. Players started with only 4000 LP.
2. The Warrior Returning Alive was called "Warrior Returning Alive" in the Dub.
3. Elegant Egotist allowed the owner to Special Summon 2 Harpie Ladies from their hand.
4. Cyber Harpie Lady was called "Cyber Harpie" in the Dub.
5. Card of Sanctity had different artwork and forced both players to draw cards until they had 6 cards in their hands.

6. Hermos and Critias were one-of-a-kind unique cards that doubled as monsters and could combine with other cards.

7. Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword appeared as an Equip Card by combining The Claw of Hermos with Red-Eyes B. Dragon.

8. Red-Eyes B. Dragon was called "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" in the Dub.
9. Flame Swordsman was a Normal Monster in the Dub.
10. Blue Flame Swordsman could give any amount of its ATK to another monster on the field when destroyed but could only Special Summon Flame Swordsman from the owner's Deck at that time.

11. Harpie Lady Phoenix Formation destroyed a number of opponents monsters equal to the number of Harpie Lady monsters the owner controlled, then dealt the opponent damage equal to their destroyed monsters(s) combined ATK.
