Episode 90: Mind Game (1)

Odeon is currently holding steady but the Duel has rendered him unconscious for the forseeable future. Joey doesn't forgive Marik for not having a care in the world about whom he's hurt but Mai doesn't see what Marik would've done instead. Roland calls the group back but the group stay a bit longer as Mai asks Joey about the dream he'd mentioned having during his match with Odeon. Unfortunately, Joey pretends Mai had nothing to do with the dream and walks off but thus angers Tea` and she follows him out of the room. Mai realizes a connection between her and Odeon before Joey gets a literal earful from Tea`. Everyone arrives back in the room to hear the next Duelists participating but Joey suggests Marik be disqualified for faking his identity. Kaiba declines as he wants Duelists to win with skills and not by default.

Mai doesn't care whom she's facing and heads off, only to find out whom she's facing as he comes out after trying to get rid of Odeon. The gang eventually follow and cheer Mai on but she wants none of their support. Marik is impressed with Mai's choice but is excited to have Mai try the Shadow Realm for the first time. Mai realizes she's up against a pretty crazy individual but isn't willing to let her fears get the better of her. With the Duel set, Mai stats off strong but Marik's move is quite familiar to Yami as he'd faced the exact same strategy previously.

Yami proceeds to warn Mai about it but Mai refuses to let him finish the message, insisting she can do things by herself. With that, she proceeds to take out Revival Jam but finds it's much harder to defeat than she thought. Marik then starts to gain the upper hand a bit until Mai plays a powerful Spell Card to distrupt his strategy. Marik then brings out a powerful monster that runs right into Mai's classic Trap Card.Unfortunately, Marik is unphased by this as his lost monster's effect gives him control of Mai's monster and then he promptly removes Mai's Trap Card with a Spell Card. As a bonus, Marik brings the Duel to the Shadow Realm and when Mai brings out a strong monster, she sees first hand what it means for her and her monster. Nevertheless, she takes out Marik' stolen monster but ends up paying the price because it was originally her monster. Mai is not okay at all and is in a true nightmare she must escape from.
