Episode 89: Awakening of Evil (4)

Odeon begs Marik to reconsider his request to have his counterfeit God Card be played but is convinced otherwise and goes through the steps by Temple of the King's effect, halving his score down to 200 and releasing his God Card (which I will not color code since it's not the real card and therefore will not be shown in the Episode Cards section. The real TotK doesn't require any Life Point cost to use its effect, and can bring out any monster from your hand, Deck or Extra Deck just by sending it and Mystical Beast of Serket you control to the Graveyard.) The mighty God Card replica appears and Ishizu feels it (and even to the untrained eye, you can still spot that the fake Ra is loaded with more shadows, it's not well defined at all).

Since Joey has become Kaiba's guinea pig, he'll finally see what Ra can do. However, when Odeon orders his Fake Ra to attack, there's a disturbance with the Millennium Items and Ra begins dissipating to Marik's confusion. His Rare Hunters tested the cards and he thought Odeon could control them. As Ra's rage takes effect with a thunderstorm, Odeon mentally admits he's not worthy of controlling the card and has failed him once more. With that, he's struck by the holographic lightning and knocked out and his fake Millennium Rod shattering is all the proof Yami needs to conclude that he's not really Marik. Joey goes to check but the lightning stops him, then knocks him out too.

Tristan proceeds to check but Roland warns them that the duel is in progress and refuses to allow Tristan onto the platform despite the injuries both duelists have sustained. Kaiba dismisses the storm as a freak act of nature and declares that both players have 5 minutes to stand and the first one standing within the time limit wins but Yami disapproves, calling it ridiculous. Marik is now clutching his head in pain as the gang urge Joey to stand up. With three minutes left, Odeon is struggling to open his eyes and Ishizu fears that Marik's dark half will increase in power with Odeon no longer protecting Marik, remembering when Marik received the Tombkeeper's Initiation with Odeon doing his own ritual shortly thereafter.

Odeon strains to get up and Roland is about to announce him as the winner but he collapses once again. Joey meanwhile has a dream where his friends help him put together a deck for his life's most important duel. They finish and proceed to head out but Joey doesn't have the strength to stand up so they help him up and when the dream ends, he's standing up on the platform, clueless as to what happened. Once his mind's gaps are filled, he goes to check on Odeon, whom says it was an honor to duel and he's only a servant of the real Marik, whom is still clutching his head in pain. Marik admits he's the real Marik and Namu was merely a disguise to bring him to Yugi and the gang realize he's the one who brainwashed Joey.

They're all in great danger as Odeon explains of Marik's darker side, which he himself cannot contain anymore. Neither can Marik as he lets out a huge yell and now has become Dark Marik, whom says that now that he's free, he can do things as he's wanted. Odeon's failure proved only a chosen few can wield the power of God Cards and Kaiba is one of them but he's not buying it and is told not to deny his 5000 year old memories. The battle for the pharaoh's power begins now. It's a conflict 5000 years in the making and there's no turning back! The God Cards will serve and protect Dark Marik as he rules Earth as the new pharaoh!
