Episode 79: Shadow of a Duel

Night falls and the gang now have to figure out where the Battle City Finals are being held. Joey brings up a rumor he'd heard and quickly finds out that it's true. Meanwhile, Marik and Bakura float in the skies as Marik explains his plan to obtain the God Cards in exchange for letting Bakura have the Millennium Items. Bakura has to win 6 Locator Cards before the finals arrive and there's little time to do so. Down below, Bakura had been resting but awakens and takes off, leaving Solomon, whom had been watching over him, unconsious on the floor. Elsewhere, Bones, Sid and Zygor are having fun scaring Duelists into giving up Locator Cards in the cemetary but find Bakura to be a tougher opponent.

Bakura wagers the only Locator Card he has against Bones with Bones putting up all 6 the trio had obtained from their antics. While Bakura doesn't do so well to start, he quickly gets the upper hand until Bones brings out a Fusion Monster and activates a Trap Card that costs a player LP each time they lose a monster to the Graveyard. Bakura takes full advantage by using a Spell Card to help his monster take down Bones' Fusion Monster and leaving them down more than half their LP. Bones then gets a lucky draw to stall for time but it's no good as Bakura finds away around it to win the Duel and earn a spot in the finals.

Episode Cards

                Bones:
TSH (2x, 1 via The Shallow Grave), DZ, PB, Polymerization, GMoG, SI, NS
Deviations from the TCG
1. Players started with only 4000 LP.
2. Ectoplasmer was a Field Spell that took the soul of the controller's monster and dealt half its ATK to the opponent.

3. Premature Burial was called "Magic Burial" in the Dub.
4. Snake Hair was called "Snake Hair the Sorceress" in the Dub.
5. The Shallow Grave was called "Shallow Grave" in the Dub and it revived monsters face-up in Defense Mode.

6. Both players could activate Set Spell Cards during either player's turn.
7. The Earl of Demise was called "Earl of Demise" in the Dub.
Errors
1. Sid and Zygor remark that Dragon Zombie is stronger than Headless Knight even though Bakura revived it in Defense Mode, where it has higher DEF.

2. Bones said Nightmare's Steelcage only stopped Bakura from attacking for 2 turns even though it applies to both players.
