Ohio State Reformatory |
A home to 1st offenders, Ohio State Reformatory (aka Mansfield Reformatory) was initially regarded as a good way to get inmates reformed. However, over the course of the reformatory's history, that attitude changed as it became infamous for murder, torture and abuse. The site closed in 1990 but the gates leading inside are still open to the public. Prisoners inside during its days of operation could face what was called "The Hole", where cells had little more than a bunk bed and a toilet, leaving some prisoners little else to sleep on but the concrete floor. Anyone brave enough to enter the site at night can have a ghost tour hosted by Mansfield Reformatory Preservation Society (MRPS). |
