Titanic History: The Truth (Page 11)
What was Titanic? R.M.S (aka Royal Mail Steamer/Steamship) Titanic was an ocean liner that sailed from April 10th 1912 at Southampton, England to what was intended to be New York City, but sank on April 14/15th 1912. She was built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast, Northern Ireland and was intended to be part of a trio of sister ships for White Star Line. Fact #10: Wreck Documentation Following its discovery in 1985, Robert Ballard opted to go back and film the wreck with an ROV while they explored with their submersible Alvin. It took a while, but they were able to find the Stern, but not yet confirm its condition due to technology at the time. Still, they captured a wealth of footage revealing the state of the bow and remarkable preservation of the interior. Unfortunately, the trips to the wreck have caused some damage to the wreck, but a lot of it is from the breakup area and is moving forward. Even as of 2024, the wreck is in remarkable condition with little more than a removable railing falling off the bow has been the most recent change. Despite articles claiming it'd be gone by 2030 or so, it's clear it's got a long way to go before we forget what we're looking at.
