Pine Barrens

A stretch of forest in New Jersey is said to house a beast known as the Jersey Devil. The legend behind it states that the Jersey Devil was the 13th child of Mother Leeds in 1735 that started out perfectly normal, then transformed into a hideous beast. No evidence has come forth proving or disproving the existance of the Jersey Devil but a group of investigators did experience some sort of activity while there. However, in the 18th and 19th centuries, people have claimed to have spotted the Jersey Devil, including an infamous stretch of 7 day sightings from January 16-23 1909. It's still debated as to whether or not the Jersey Devil exists but is popular enough as a legend to receive merchandise and be used as a hockey team name.
