Duelist Saga (Continued)
DUSA-EN042
Card Type: Spell Card
Card Info Dueltaining
Field Spell
For each player, the first time they do each of the following per turn, they draw 2 cards.
● Special Summon 5 monsters with different Levels at the same time.
● 1 monster they control battles 5 times.
● Activate a card or effect as Chain Link 5 or higher.
● Roll 1 six-sided die, or toss a coin, 5 times.
● Take damage that made their LP 500 or less.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 1
Comments: Yuya Sakaki's way of dueling is cringe-worthy at best (and that's partially why I haven't reviewed the show yet) and this card only makes it even worse because each effect has a strict requirement to meet before you get anything out of it.
DUSA-EN041
Card Type: Spell Card
Card Info Contract with Don Thousand
Continuous Spell
When this card is activated: Both players lose 1000 LP, and if they do, each draws 1 card. All cards that are drawn while this card's effect is applied must remain revealed. While a player's Spell Card in their hand is revealed by this effect, that player cannot Normal Summon/Set monsters. You can only activate 1 "Contract with Don Thousand" per turn.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 1
Comments: It was broken in the anime but now it's just terrible considering both players are forced to lose 1000 LP and keep every card in their hand revealed when it's drawn, not to mention are locked out of Normal Summoning or Setting monsters while they have a Spell Card revealed.
DUSA-EN040
Card Type: Trap Card
Card Info Halfway to Forever
Normal Trap
Target 2 monsters in your Graveyard; Special Summon both, but they have their effects negated (if any), and if you do, immediately after this effect resolves, Xyz Summon 1 LIGHT "Utopia" or "Utopic" Xyz Monster using only those 2 monsters.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: It revives any 2 monsters in your Graveyard to become Xyz Materials but only to a LIGHT Utopia or Utopic Xyz Monster and you can't use any other monsters you control as the Xyz Material.
DUSA-EN039
Card Type: Spell Card
Card Info Light Wing Shield
Quick-Play Spell
When a monster's attack is negated: Activate 1 of these effects;
● It becomes the End Phase of this turn.
● Target 1 "Utopia" Xyz Monster you control; its ATK becomes double its original ATK until the end of this turn.
If a "Utopia" Xyz Monster you control would detach exactly 1 Xyz Material to activate its effect, you can banish this card from your Graveyard instead.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: Modelled after Number 39: Utopia's dub effect name in the anime and somewhat from Yuma Tsukumo's use of Double or Nothing! once Utopia's attack is negated but personally, this isn't much better than Double or Nothing! or regular Utopia's effect.
DUSA-EN038
Card Type: Spell Card
Card Info Clashing Souls
Quick-Play Spell
During damage calculation, if your Attack Position monster battles an opponent's Attack Position monster with higher ATK: The controller of the battling monster with lower ATK can pay 500 LP for that monster to gain 500 ATK during damage calculation only, then keep repeating this effect until a player chooses not to pay LP. Neither player takes any battle damage from that battle, also, after damage calculation, if any player's monster would be destroyed by that battle, send all cards that player controls to the Graveyard instead.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 1
Comments: Talk about hurting both players because it forces each player that wants to defeat their opponent's monster to pay LP in hopes it survives but since both players can do this, it's an endless loop until someone is low on LP and loses everything else they control, but regardless of who wins, battle damage is nullified, rendering the entire effort pointless.
DUSA-EN037
Card Type: Trap Card
Card Info Converging Wishes
Normal Trap
If you have 5 or more Dragon-Type Synchro Monsters with different names in your Graveyard: Special Summon 1 "Stardust Dragon" from your Extra Deck (this is treated as a Synchro Summon), but banish it during the End Phase. Equip it with this card. While equipped, it gains ATK equal to the combined ATK of all Dragon-Type Synchro Monsters in your Graveyard. Also while equipped, when it destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can banish 1 Dragon-Type Synchro Monster from your Graveyard; it can attack an opponent's monster again in a row.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: It works on any Stardust Dragon monster but there aren't many of those and you won't be keeping that monster for long so you'd better hope your attack with that monster succeeds.
DUSA-EN036
Card Type: Spell Card
Card Info Cosmic Flare
Quick-Play Spell
Target 1 "Stardust" Synchro Monster you control; this turn, if that Synchro Monster you control battles an opponent's monster, shuffle that opponent's monster into the Deck at the start of the Damage Step. If a "Stardust" Synchro Monster you control would Tribute itself to activate its effect, you can banish this card from your Graveyard instead.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: Shuffling the other monster into the Deck is only worth it if the othe rmonster is either stronger or has an effect that puts a damper on your strategy. Being able to use Stardust Dragon's effect without Tributing itself isn't that bad though.
DUSA-EN035
Card Type: Effect Monster
Card Info Clear Effector
LIGHT / Spellcaster / Level 2 / ATK 0 / DEF 900
If this card is sent to the Graveyard as a Synchro Material: Draw 1 card. A Synchro Monster that used this card as a Synchro Material cannot be destroyed by card effects.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: Too bad it's not a Tuner monster but it offers relatively decent effects when it becomes Synchro Material.
DUSA-EN034
Card Type: Synchro Monster
Card Info Cosmic Blazar Dragon
WIND / Dragon-Type Synchro / Level 12 / ATK 4000 / DEF 4000
1 Tuner Synchro Monster + 2 or more non-Tuner Synchro Monsters
Must be Synchro Summoned, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. You can banish this card until the End Phase to activate 1 of these Quick Effects;
● When your opponent activates a card or effect: Negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that card.
● When your opponent would Summon a monster(s): Negate the Summon, and if you do, destroy that monster(s).
● When an opponent's monster declares an attack: Negate the attack, then end the Battle Phase.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: Each effect will cause this behemoth to leave the field to stop the offending move your opponent makes from happening but luckily it only stays banished until the End Phase. Unfortunately, these perks mean you have to put in a lot of effort and aren't allowed to Special Summon it by other means later.
DUSA-EN033
Card Type: Trap Card
Card Info Power Wall
Normal Trap
During damage calculation, when you would take battle damage from an opponent's attacking monster: Send 1 card from the top of your Deck to the Graveyard for every 500 damage (round up) you are about to take, also you take no battle damage from that battle.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: I guess the anime effect was deemed too powerful for Graveyard-centered Decks but even this can be somewhat taken advantage of, though it also reduces its uses.
DUSA-EN032
Card Type: Spell Card
Card Info White Veil
Equip Spell
While the equipped monster battles, your opponent cannot activate any Spell/Trap Cards until the end of the Damage Step. When an attack is declared involving the equipped monster: Face-up Spell/Trap Cards your opponent controls have their effects negated until the end of the Damage Step (even if this card leaves the field). When the equipped monster destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can destroy all Spell and Trap Cards your opponent controls. When this face-up card in a player's Spell & Trap Zone leaves the field, that player takes 3000 damage.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 4
Comments: Dealing the owner 3000 damage when it leaves the field is pretty steep but it's the only side-effect this card includes, making it ideal pretty much anywhere, especially where you can take advantage of that side-effect like with Prime Material Dragon.
DUSA-EN031
Card Type: Spell Card
Card Info Fallen Paradise
Field Spell
Your opponent cannot target "Uria, Lord of Searing Flames", "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder", "Raviel, Lord of Phantasms", or "Armityle the Chaos Phantom" in your Monster Zones with card effects, also those monsters cannot be destroyed by your opponent's card effects while you control them. If you control "Uria, Lord of Searing Flames", "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder", "Raviel, Lord of Phantasms" or "Armityle the Chaos Phantom" in your Monster Zone: You can draw 2 cards. You can only use this effect of "Fallen Paradise" once per turn.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: Kagemaru used this card to great effect in the anime and ours is very faithful to the anime version and with a bit more, though even with this, it's not that great overall.
DUSA-EN030
Card Type: Effect Monster
Card Info Dark Summoning Beast
DARK / Fiend / Level 5 / ATK 0 / DEF 0
You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 "Uria, Lord of Searing Flames", "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder", or "Raviel, Lord of Phantasms" from your hand or Deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions, also monsters you control cannot attack for the rest of this turn. You can only use this effect of "Dark Summoning Beast" once per turn. You can banish this card from your Graveyard; add 1 "Uria, Lord of Searing Flames", "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder", or “Raviel, Lord of Phantasms" from your Deck to your hand.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: Being a DARK monster makes it perfect for searching with Mystic Tomato but only during your turn as otherwise you can't use the effect. The 0 ATK also has uses with Limit Reverse and is probably the easiest method to bring out the Sacred Beasts. The last effect isn't too bad either though.
DUSA-EN029
Card Type: Spell Card
Card Info Skydive Scorcher
Normal Spell
Target 1 "Elemental HERO" Fusion Monster you control; destroy as many monsters your opponent controls as possible, with ATK higher than that monster's, then inflict damage to your opponent equal to the highest original ATK among those destroyed monsters in the Graveyard (your choice, if tied). If a "Skyscraper" Field Spell Card is in your Field Zone, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the combined original ATK of those destroyed monsters in the Graveyard, instead.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: You don't typically see the Elemental HERO Fusion Monsters that often these days as the main drive for it (Stratos) remains banned to this day and Masked HEROs have kind of taken over so this probably won't do much good but at least it's not restrained to Flame Wingman as the card design would have you believe.
DUSA-EN028
Card Type: Effect Monster
Card Info Elemental HERO Honest Neos
LIGHT / Warrior / Level 7 / ATK 2500 / DEF 2000
During either player's turn: You can discard this card, then target 1 "HERO" monster on the field; it gains 2500 ATK until the end of this turn. During either player’s turn: You can discard 1 "HERO" monster; this card gains ATK equal to the discarded monster's ATK until the end of this turn. You can only use each effect of "Elemental HERO Honest Neos" once per turn.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: Both effects aren't all that bad but the strongest Main Deck monster that can be discarded is either Bladedge or its counterpart Malicious Edge, which both have 2600 ATK and that is a pretty respectiable ATK boost to apply. However, that may be a monster you need sooner rather than later and thus will not have it when you actually need it.
DUSA-EN027
Card Type: Trap Card
Card Info Harpie's Feather Storm
Normal Trap
If you control a WIND Winged Beast-Type monster: Until the end of this turn, negate any monster effects your opponent activates. If you control a "Harpie" monster, you can activate this card from your hand. If this card in its owner's Spell & Trap Zone is destroyed by an opponent's card effect: You can add 1 "Harpie's Feather Duster" from your Deck or Graveyard to your hand.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: True to the anime, they allowed Harpie Lady and company to be acceptable for the acitvation requirements and gave it a bit of a buff to boot. However, with Harpie's Feather Duster still banned in the TCG, we're not going to be able to make use of the other effect just yet.
DUSA-EN026
Card Type: Effect Monster
Card Info Diabound Kernel
DARK / Fiend / Level 5 / ATK 1800 / DEF 1200
When this card declares an attack: It gains 600 ATK. During either player's turn: You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; it loses ATK equal to this card's current ATK until the end of this turn, then banish this card until the Standby Phase of the next turn. You can only use this effect of "Diabound Kernel" once per turn.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: Proved too powerful in the anime to keep the effect upon release but the card's watered down effect and poor stats make it almost unplayable.
DUSA-EN025
Card Type: Spell Card
Card Info Chaos Scepter Blast
Quick-Play Spell
If you control a Level 8 or higher Spellcaster-Type monster: Banish 1 card on the field face-down. If this card in its owner's Spell & Trap Zone is destroyed by an opponent's card effect: You can Special Summon 1 "Magician of Black Chaos" or "Dark Magician of Chaos" from your Deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: Only rated it as high as it is for the 2nd effect, which is probably the most convenient of the effects to use.
DUSA-EN024
Card Type: Spell Card
Card Info Legacy of the Duelist
Continuous Spell
When your monster declares an attack: You can target 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; negate the attack, and if you do, destroy that card. Each player can only Set 1 Spell/Trap Card from their hand per turn. Monsters cannot attack the turn they were Special Summoned from the Extra Deck. During your Draw Phase, before your draw: You can give up your normal draw this turn, and if you do, add 1 monster from your Graveyard to your hand.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 1
Comments: Much like the video game with the same name, this card is not worth using as it will restrain both players to their options and negating an attack is a poor choice since baring a few exceptions, you opted to attack in the first place.
DUSA-EN023
Card Type: Trap Card
Card Info Darklord Descent
Normal Trap
Pay half your LP; Special Summon up to 2 "Darklord" monsters from your Graveyard in Defense Position, with the same Level as 1 face-up monster your opponent controls.
ULTRA RARE
Rating: 2
Comments: A really steep cost but you can use the revived Darklords for whatever you want, though they're in Defense Mode so you won't likely be attacking with them that turn.
