Episode 10: Tag-Team Trial (1)

Inside the hallway, Crowler mutters to himself about how there are slackers are littering the school. Jaden Yuki has made a fool of Crowler for long enough! Soon he'll pay dearly with what Crowler has planned. Soon, he'll be the fool. Chazz shows up, requesting that he be in the tag duel with Syrus and Jaden. This time he knows he can defeat Jaden and send him packing! Crowler declines his request, saying he has the greatest tag duelists in the world. Inside their Dorms, Chumley asks how they can be so calm and while flipping through their cards Jaden says it's just another duel, another day. The cards, when shown at 2:13 into the episode, have been changed to show their cards' images for US

Duh, Jaden, it's not an ordinary duel, Chumley says. If he loses this duel, he'll be on the next bus out of here! They're on an island, how can they take a bus? Whatever, he still should give him the meal cards just in case. Syrus thinks that Chumley may have a point. In his last match, he was awful, like his brother always said he was.

For this match, he'll just have to do better and not let anything get in his head, especially Zane, after all, the last time he let Zane get to his head, Jaden really let him have it. Believe in himself....that's what he has to do! They leave. At the arena, the announcer tells the audience that the duel's an official expulsion match. Alexis and Bastion talk and Alexis says if anyone's in need of help, it's Jaden and Syrus! Hasn't he heard? Rumor has it that Crowler chose professional duelists, tag-team legends, duelists who worked with the creator of Duel Monsters himself! The announcer summons Jaden and Syrus, whom show up. Chazz gets angry. It should be him taking them out but guess as long as someone does it. Zane and Chumley arrive. Zane thinks that it's time to see whether Syrus belongs here or is on the next road out. Crowler announces the tag-team opponents, the Paradox Brothers, whom give Jaden and Syrus a rhyming welcome.

Maybe this tag-team match won't be so bad, Syrus says. Perhaps, after all these two haven't dueled in ages and the last time they dueled was against a child by the name of Yugi something. Chazz jokes about Chumley having more room in his dorm now. They're toast! Sheppard questions Crowler on this match being a bit much but Crowler disagrees. hey can't send them back now, they've come so far! Sheppard then asks Jaden what he wants to do. Jaden agrees. After Crowler spills the rules, the duel starts. Syrus starts and summons Gyroid (1000) in Attack Mode. (Obviously Syrus ended his turn for if that weren't the case, it would be illegal to start your turn without waiting for your opponent to finish.) Para is surprised Gyroid has an Attack Mode. He draws and plays Jirai Gumo (2200) in Attack Mode. Jaden draws and summons Elemental Hero Burstinatrix (800) in Defense Mode. Dox plays Kaiser Sea Horse (1700) in Attack Mode. Syrus thinks that if he knows them, they'll attack next. (That wouldn't be possible since it's the first turn unless a card they played let then do so.)

Dox then plays Tribute Doll, which forces him tribute a monster, which Para gladly lets him do. He summons Kazejin (2400) in Attack Mode. Wait until he draws and he'll give them a true schooling! (Dox already drew, though.) He plays Dark Designator, which allows Dox to pick  a card name and if it's in his brother's deck, it is added to Para's hand. (The real card only adds cards from your opponent's deck to your opponent's hand.) The duel has just started, yet it's almost done! Syrus freaks but Jaden tells him it makes for an easy rhyme but he hopes that they don't make for an easy victory! He then tells Syrus they can win this match. Syrus, now confident, agrees, thinking that not only will he show the Paradox Brothers but he'll show his brother Zane and he'll do it right now, on this turn! He draws and summons Steamroid (1800) in Attack Mode. Steamroid has been modified slightly for US when shown at 10:45 into the episode.

He then plays Polymerization to bring out Steam Gyroid (2200) in Attack Mode. He attacks but Dox activates Kazejin's effect, reducing the Battle Damage to 0. (The real card reduces the attacking monster's ATK to 0.) Syrus sets a card and ends his turn. Para draws and plays Monster Reborn to revive Jirai Gumo in Attack Mode. Next he plays his own Tribute Doll, for which he tributes Jirai for Suijin (2500) in Attack Mode. Then he asks Dox if he can borrow a monster. Dox says that's why he's there and Para tributes Kaiser for Sanga of the Thunder (2600) in Attack Mode, then tributes all 3 monsters for Gate Guardian (3750) in Attack Mode. He attacks Steam Gyroid, destroying it and putting Jaden and Syrus' LPs to 6450. Finally, he sets a card and ends his turn. Jaden draws. Some of his cards have been modified for US as shown at 15:28 into the episode. He summons Elemental Hero Clayman (800) in Attack Mode then uses Polymerization to bring out Elemental Hero Rampart Blaster (2500) in Defense Mode. He attacks directly with Rampart Blaster's effect. Oops! Rampart Blaster is shown in the US to be on top of Clayman's card instead of her own at 16:22 into the episode!

The Paradox Brothers' LPs drop to 7000. (They've apparently decided to use 8000 LPs for Tag-Team duels only) Dox draws and activates Fairy Meteor Crush and equips it to Gate Guardian. Dox explains that due to FMC, when GG attacks a monster in Defense Mode, the difference between GG's ATK and its Defense Position monster's DEF comes out of Jaden and Syrus' LPs! However, he forgot that Syrus has a face down card and Syrus activates it, Mystical Space Typhoon, which he uses to destroy FMC but Para activates Judgment of Anubis, which negates MST and destroys 1 of Syrus and Jaden's monsters, which it happens to be Rampart Blaster as their score drops to 4450. Dox plays Defense Wall (2100) in Defense Mode, whose effect prevents any other monster from being attacked while he's out. Oops! They've made Defense Wall a Normal Monster in the US as shown at 18:16 into the episode! Syrus plays Cycroid (1000) in Defense Mode. Para attacks, destroying Cycroid and putting Jaden and Syrus' score to 1700. It's Jaden's turn, he must make a move or he'll be disqualified!
