Episode 7: Duel and Unusual Punishment

Outside the dorms, Alexis sees Zane and questions why he's  out here. Zane tells her it's for nothing, he felt like being alone. Alexis then says that maybe since Syrus enrolled at Duel Academy, Zane would feel like that less not more. Maybe that's because my brother shouldn't be here, Zane says. At Duel Academy, a covered van pulls up and several men in uniform dart up the stairs. Upstairs, Banner questions about the kids being too old for playing war. How about a nice game of charades? Banner realizes it's the Disciplinary Action Squad, who only arrive when someone's in big trouble and they're heading for Jaden! Meanwhile, Jaden and the gang are sleeping when a knocking is heard. Open up or we'll knock it down, the squad says. You and what army?" Jaden asks tiredly. The Disciplinary Action Squad army, they reply. They then tell Jaden that he and Syrus are under arrest for trespassing in the Abandoned Dorm. Crowler suggests a Tag-Team Duel. Chancellor Sheppard accepts, saying that he'll find some opponents but Crowler says leave it to him.

In Sheppard's office, Chumley says he should be Jaden's partner for the duel and that it was his fault since he lead them to the Abandoned Dorm. Alexis walks in saying that she should be Jaden's partner. She and Chumley argue before Sheppard tells them that while the stakes are high, Syrus is Jaden's opponent and assures them that Syrus will do fine but Alexis and Chumley don't agree. Back at their dorm, Syrus pleads to Chumley that Sheppard said yes but Chumley apologizes and says that he couldn't change Sheppard's mind. Jaden chuckles, saying that Chumley did lead them to the cafeteria. Why isn't Jaden worried? Isn't he afraid that Syrus will get them both expelled? Nah, Jaden wouldn't want any other partner. He says that they're going to go in there, do their best and win the match, then orders Syrus to get his deck because the two of them are going to duel! Chumley tells them to go easy on each other since it's just practice for their upcoming match. Of course, Chumley doesn't think that Jaden knows how to go easy. Alexis says it's probably a good thing since Crowler won't be choosing any pushovers and Jaden and Syrus need to be at their very best because if they aren't they'll get expelled! Jaden draws and inspects his hand. Avian, Sparkman (behind Negate Attack) and Burstinatrix (behind Sparkman)'s card arts have been modified for US when they're shown at 6:28 into the episode with Sparkman again an Effect Monster.

He summons Elemental Hero Avian (1000) in Attack Mode then sets a card face down and ends his turn. Syrus draws and summons Patroid (1200) in Attack Mode. Patroid's card art has been slightly modified for US when shown at 6:56 into the episode. He attacks but Jaden activates Negate Attack. Syrus starts drawing circles in the dirt. Doesn't Jaden think dirt is the coolest? Jaden tells him not to crack up now, he only made one mistake! Yeah, coming to this school, Syrus says. Jaden tells Syrus that he could've used Patroid's special power, allowing Syrus to see a face down card of Jaden's once per turn. Syrus says he knows he was no good. Jaden tells Syrus that he didn't mean it that way. Syrus says he knows. Jaden knows that he shouldn't butt in, they're opponents! He draws. Oops! The dubbed image shows Clayman as an Effect Monster and its art has also been changed for US as shown at 8:28 into the episode.

Jaden summons Elemental Hero Sparkman (1600) in Attack Mode. He attacks Patroid with Sparkman, destroying it and putting Syrus' LPs to 3600. He direct attacks Syrus, putting his score to 2600. He ends by setting a card face down. Syrus asks if he can crack up now. Alexis tells him that he can still win. Chumley agrees, it was the first think they learned in freshman dueling class and he should know... he had to take it twice! Syrus finally agrees, saying he's not just dueling for himself, he's dueling for Jaden and the best way to do that is to take Jaden down! Chumley tells Syrus he has to believe in himself, duh!

Syrus draws. Some of his cards have been modified for US when shown at around 10:33  into the episode. He activates Pot of Greed, giving him 2 cards. He's drawn Power Bond, which of course has been modified for US as shown at 10:56 into the episode. He then remembers that he's not good enough to use it, at least according to Zane. He thinks back to one of his past duels, against a really mean bully. After a bit of conversation, Syrus draws, it's Power Bond and thinks that he'll win for sure! He starts to play it and Zane yells stop, causing Syrus to fall. Why'd he do that when Syrus was about to win? No you weren't, Zane says. He shows Syrus the face down card the bully had, Spellbinding Circle, that would've stopped Syrus' attack and Power Bond would've dealt Syrus damage equal to his monster's ATK at the end of his turn.

Back at the actual duel, Jaden asks Syrus if he's alright. Syrus brings his mind back to the duel and plays Polymerization to bring out Steam Gyroid (2200) in Attack Mode. Oops! At 14:12 into the episode, just before Steam Gyroid appears, Patroid is in Syrus' hand with Gyroid instead of Steamroid! He attacks Avian, destroying him and putting Jaden's score to 2800, then asks if Jaden's had enough but Jaden laughs. Remember the saying, "No pain, no game"? He activates Polymerization to summon Elemental Hero Thunder Giant (2400) in Attack Mode. Pharaoh leaves and Alexis says that he has the right idea.

Chumley says it's just another monster but Alexis disagrees for Thunder Giant can destroy 1 monster on the field when he's summoned if its ATK is less than his own. (The real Thunder Giant requires you to discard a card to destroy the monster but he can do it once during each of your turns.) Chumley says practice may be a little late for Syrus. Jaden then summons Elemental Hero Burstinatrix (1200) in Attack Mode and attacks with both his monsters, wiping out Syrus' remaining LPs, saying it was a sweet duel. Syrus doesn't know about that, he didn't put up much of a fight! Jaden disagrees, saying that Syrus had some sweet moves even though Jaden pulled it out in the end. He then asks about the card that Syrus got excited about, then about why Syrus didn't use it. Syrus tells Jaden that he's not good enough to use it and he and Jaden will lose if he's Jaden's partner. He races off and Chumley follows. Later, Jaden and Alexis discuss about Syrus and Jaden then says he'll duel Zane to see if he's as good as his reputation. Alexis tells him he's nuts, no one messes with Zane! Jaden says that they do when they're tag-team partners and he wants to see how he stacks up! Look out, Zane, Jaden's coming for you!
