Episode 175: Grappling with a Guardian (2)

At the duel, the Seal of Orichalcos has joined with Raphael this time, the same person that beat Yami last time. His monsters obtain the 500 boost to 1000, 3000 and 2100 respectively. His attack with Guardian Grarl destroys Kuribabylon and leaves Yami down to 1000 Life Points. Yami responds by activating Rope of Life, bringing his monster back with 800 more ATK by discarding all cards in his hand to the Graveyard. With that, Kuribabylon returns with 2300 ATK. Raphael sets 1 card to end his turn and Kaiba sees that this duel is Yami's chance to win back his reputation and championship status (except he never lost his status because it wasn't in a tournament). Yami draws and tributes Kuribabylon back into The Kuriboh Brothers (300 x5) in Attack Mode, then after they bounce around, Yami tributes them for Kuribandit and Raphael is laughing at it. Next Yami uses Dark Magic Curtain to pay half his LPs for Dark Magician (which is NOT your ultimate monster Yami as even Buster Blader is stronger), bringing his score down to 500 (though not shown) and the gang have to be reminded of DMC's steep activation fee. (The real DMC prevents you from Summoning the turn it is activated.) He attacks but Raphael activates Guardian Formation to move her to the back row, where she'll be safe as Yami must now attack Raphael's front row first.

Raphael draws and equips Backup Gardna with Celestial Sword - Eatos, raising its ATK by 300 to 1300. Yami realizes that Raphael is about to play Guardian Eatos (3000) in Attack Mode and equips it with CSE, raising its ATK by 300 to 3300 and lowering BG's ATK back to 1000.  Yami activates Kuribandit's effect to tribute itself and draw 5 cards, keeping only Spells and Traps, therefore discarding 3 monsters. Since there are monsters in Yami's Graveyard, GE gains the ATK of each one, raising its ATK to 7000. Yami is about to become a two-time loser and Rapahel attacks but Eatos' sword cracks and falls apart and Eatos' ATK returns to 3000 as Yami explains that one of the monsters discarded earlier was Electromagnetic Turtle, which protected DM.

Raphael has nothing left to play so he ends his turn and Yami plays Big Shield Gardna (an Effect Monster in the CG) (2600) in Defense Mode, then switches DM to Defense Mode and sets 1 card to end his turn. Raphael draws and attacks Yami's DM with GE but Yami activates Magical Hats (a Trap Card with different artwork in the CG and different artwork in the Japanese version as shown at 9:23 into the episode), hiding his Dark Magician. None of his attacks destroy the Dark Magician. How could Raphael have messed that up? He was going to defeat the Pharaoh and claim his soul! Nevertheless, Raphael plays Rod of Silence (Rod of Silence - Kay'est in the CG), letting him play Guardian Kay'est (1500) in Attack Mode. Yami draws and uses Graceful Charity to draw 3 cards, then discard 2. He's drawn his Legendary Dragon card and plays it, then sends it and his Dark Magician to the Graveyard for Amulet Dragon (2900) in Attack Mode. AD gains 300 ATK per Spell Card in Yami's Grave and with 8 thus far, AD gains 2400 ATK to 5300. His attack destroys GE and leaves Raphael down to 1200 LPs (though not shown).

The Seal's barrier starts creating waves of its energy over them and as usual, Kaiba dismisses the event as a glitch but Rapahel explains that Eatos was pure and good and when destroyed, it's replaced by a creature of darkness, Guardian Dreadscythe (3000) in Attack Mode. He boosts its ATK with Reaperscythe - Dreadscythe, giving it 500 ATK for every monster in Rapahel's Graveyard, putting its ATK at 3500. Raphael doesn't like monsters in his Graveyard but hates Yami more and is willing to have a few monsters in his Graveyard to get rid of Yami. Yami ends his turn so Rapahel uses the effect of his Reaperscythe card to tribute all of his monsters and give GD 500 ATK for each one, raising its ATK by 2000 to 5500. His attack destroys AD and leaves Yami down to 300 LPs. Yami draws and uses Card of Sanctity to make both players draw from their decks until they're each holding 6 cards (The real card forces the player to remove from play all cards in their hand and on their field to essentially draw 2 cards.)

Since he drew Watapon, he Special Summons it (300) in Defense Mode by its effect (which only works in the CG if added from the deck to the hand not when it is drawn). Next he tributes it for Dark Magician Girl (1700) in Defense Mode and sets 1 card to end his turn. Raphael figures it's time to put Yami in his place and activates Obedience to force DMG to Attack Mode when his own GD attacks and he does, putting DMG into Attack Mode and prompting Yami to activate Magical Pigeon, making DMG a pigeon for the turn and making her nowhere to be found. Raphael sets 2 cards to end his turn. Yami was ruled by darkness but he was able to conquer it, remembering his duel with Yugi. Yami has drawn a card that will show Raphael whom he truly is, Underworld Circle. As a result, all monsters on the field disappear and the Seal of Orichalcos' ring begins spinning. All Yugi's friends can do is hope that Yami is the one standing when the fog clears!
