Episode 172: Fighting for a Friend (4)

In the alleyway, Tea` brings the search to a halt as she explains that the map indicates Joey is close by and they need to look down each ally. Yami remains unresponsive until Tea` asks about it and tells her that he felt Joey's Legendary Dragon's presence earlier but no longer feels it. While they continue looking, Joey stands with 200 LPs while Valon has 900 LPs. Mai thinks she doesn't need to be saved but the Seal is putting pain to her head. Joey begins by paying half his LPs to keep Aurora Armor attached to him, bringing his score down to 100. Next he sets 2 cards to end his turn. Valon draws and brings back Psychic Armor Head to his field. Next he uses Phoenix Gravitation, letting him bring back Burning Knuckle, Jet Gauntlet, Over Boost, and Active Guard from his Graveyard and attaches them to himself.

However, this has activated Joey's Graverobber, which he uses to take and Summon Valon's Big Bang Blow. (The real Gravebber can only take Spell Cards from the opponent's Graveyard and if used, the player takes 2000 damage.) Next, Joey activates Take One Chance, moving one random card in Joey's hand to his field and he gets his Legendary Dragon card. Furthermore, he merges his 2 cards for Big Bang Dragon Blow, which he equips himself with. Both players' fists collide with neither side giving in so Joey tributes his Red-Eyes to activate BBDB's effect to destroy all of Valon's monsters and deal him damage equal to their ATKs. With that, Valon accepts defeat as his score drops to 0. Mai concludes that this is her fault but Valon refuses to accept that and his soul is taken and deposited in Dartz's wall of souls. Mai holds Valon in her hands, wanting her back, remembering what Valon had told her before. However, it's short-lived and she states that Valon got what he deserved and doesn't listen to Joey's words.

Joey has realized that the only way to save Mai is to duel her and she accepts. Meanwhile, Yami, Tea` and Tristan still haven't found Joey but Yami's card gives them a possible lead. Elsewhere, Kaiba and Mokuba are driving along when they find more Orichalcos Soldiers. While they fend them off, Joey lets Mai go first and she does, playing Cyber Harpie (Cyber Harpie Lady in the CG) (1800) in Attack Mode for her turn. Joey struggles to draw his card, realizing how intense his last duel was but manages to play Blue Flame Swordsman (1800) in Attack Mode. Mai draws and summons a second Cyber Harpie and equips one of them with Aero Nail, raising its ATK by 300 to 2100. Her first attack destroys Joey's BFS and leaves Joey down to 3700. However, BFS' effect has been activated, letting Joey play the regular Flame Swordsman (1800) in Attack Mode. (The real card is a Fusion Monster but that wouldn't make sense in this case because they don't have a Fusion Deck or Extra Deck space.)

She sets 1 card to end her turn and Joey has a bad feeling about it but draws and tributes FS for Cyber-Tech Alligator (2500) in Attack Mode and takes out the stronger CH, leaving Mai down to 3600 LPs. Due to AN's effect, it moves to Mai's other CH, putting its ATK at 2100 but Joey sets 1 card to end his turn. Mai draws and activates the Seal of Orichalcos and Yami, Tristan and Tea` see it come down from the sky and know Joey is involved and press onward. Mai then plays a third Cyber Harpie and both get the 500 boost to 2600 and 2300 respectively. Her attacks destroy Joey's CTA and leave Joey's score equal to her's and prompting Joey to activate Scapegoat. Of course, Mai responds with Nightmare Tri-Mirror, giving her the same number of Cyber Harpie Tokens equal to the 4 Goat Tokens Joey has but they can't attack that turn so she instead uses her remaining Cyber Harpie's attack to destroy a Goat Token. Joey needs new tricks but plans on fighting to save Mai or lose his soul trying!
