Episode 169: Fighting for a Friend (1)

In the alleyway, Tristan orders Joey to stop and when Joey obeys, it's because an Orichalcos Soldier is in the way and Tristan recommends running again. They bolt the other way and encounter an innocent motorcyclist, whom turns right into the Orichalcos soldier's path but manages to avoid a crash and remains trembling on the ground before slithering away. Tristan and Joey are off running again until Joey realizes that they cannot outrun it and Joey strikes back with a punch and the soldier is destroyed. However, they're quick to realize that Valon was responsible and convinces Joey to give chase. Using the motorist's motorcycle, Joey takes off despite Tristan's protest, following Valon's almost exact path.

Meanwhile, Duke and the others wait for Kaiba and Yami, whom arrive just when Rebecca is getting anxious. They explain to Kaiba and Yami about Joey's trek to Paradias HQ but Tea` brings news of the Orichalcos Soldiers being all over the city and Professor Hawkins adds that people are collapsing into a state of unconsciousness, leading them to conclude that the Seal of Orichalcos has joined them to take souls. Tristan continues his search aimlessly and encounters Mai, whom is looking for Joey too and realizes Valon is whom Joey is following and heads off.

In what looks to be an abandoned parking lot, Valon and Joeys' journey is over and the two discuss wanting Mai back. Valon lead Joey here to get rid of him for good as Mai cannot be happy until Joey is gone. Valon convinces Joey to duel and Joey starts with Alligator's Sword (1500) in Attack Mode, totally clueless about Valon's dueling style. Valon begins with Psychic Armor Head (0000) in Attack Mode, confirming Joey's confusion and adds Armored Gravitation to bring out Trap Buster Armor, Big Bang Blow, Over Boost and Active Guard (0000 x4) in Attack Mode. With all the pieces in place, Valon is linked with the Monster Cards. (Naturally, I'm sure they'd get equipped to Psychic Armor Head if they existed here because getting equipped with Monster Cards just wouldn't work.)

While Dartz talks to The Great Leviathan about how close it is to being revived, Rebecca states they're about a mile from Paradias HQ and just ahead, Tristan is tired from running but the Orichalcos Soldier finds him and so do Duke and his passengers. Seeing Tristan in danger, Yami plays his Obnoxious Celtic Guardian (" ") to destroy the OS. Both groups share info of what they've learned, including Valon and his dueling style. Yami orders them out to find Joey but Kaiba finds more OS waiting.

Back at the duel, from inside Psychic Armor Head, Joey is analyzed and Valon learns of a 99% destruction probability for Alligator's Sword by Big Bang Blow (they're clearly accounting for a possible card in hand counterattack but none of the big cards that work from the hand today like Effect Veiler existed at this point so I really don't think it's going to be less than 100%) and due to its effect, all monsters on the field are destroyed, dealing both players damage equal to the ATK of those monsters, leaving Joey defenseless and down to 2500 but leaving Valon unscathed by Active Guard's effect. Since the Battle Phase is over, Valon's suit is destroyed. Valon doesn't need to hide behind anything as he prefers to face his opponents head-on and remembers his time in another detention center where a man suggests using the Duel Monsters cards instead of fists (where'd the Seal of Orichalcos come from? Unless this detention center has a replica of the card or is somehow working for Dartz, I can't understand how he'd gotten one). Since then, he's been working for Dartz but he's fighting for himself. Valon was just getting warmed up. Wait until Joey see what Valon's deck of armor can really do!
