Episode 152: My Freaky Valentine (1)

At the duel, Joey is waiting for Mai to come to her senses but none of his friends get through to her. Valon catches Yami talking to himself and notes that nothing breaks the Seal of Orechalkos and it doesn't disappear until a soul gets captured (then you're unaware of Kaiba's duel with Alister which ended in a draw and no souls were taken). Raphael adds that he's taking Yami's soul once Mai beats Joey but Mai wants to duel Yami herself. This is why Raphael never liked Mai, no respect and doesn't like the fact that Valon finds her cute when she's angry (frankly, neither do I). Joey still doesn't want to duel Mai because he's afraid he'll win and have Mai's soul taken but Mai tells them she has no soul as she gave it up for power. Nevertheless, Joey decides to duel after all and summons Alligator's Sword (1200) in Defense Mode, knowing that he needs a strategy.

Mai summons another Harpie Lady (1300) in Attack Mode and it gets 500 more ATK to 1800. (Like your move is any more exciting, Mai.) Her attacks destroy Joey's AS and leave his score down to 2200. Tristan suspects Joey is throwing the duel to save Mai and Yugi questions this but is reminded of the previous time Joey risked his life to save Mai. Yami thinks they may be able to use the Eye of Timaeus to save Joey but Raphael mentally protests otherwise. Mai sets 1 card, figuring Joey will run away screaming when he sees it. Meanwhile, Duke, Rex and Weevil arrive at the remains of the gas station and Duke gets an idea, flooring the gas forward, leaving Rex and Weevil to suffer.

On his Blue-Eyes White Jet, Kaiba learns that there's no signal at Industrial Illusions HQ and figures Alister's group got to him first and wants them to believe that he and Mokuba are flying into a trap but Kaiba is always one step ahead. He figures his Fang of Critias card is just as powerful as the God Cards and continues their path to Industrial Illusions, where Joey draws and summons Rocket Warrior (1300) in Defense Mode and sets 1 card to end his turn.

Mai draws, then attacks, destroying Joey's RW and forcing Joey to activate Scapegoat to give him 4 tokens. However, Mai activates Nightmare Tri-Mirror, giving her the same number of Harpie Lady Tokens equal to the number of Scapegoat Tokens Joey gets. She sets 1 card to end her turn (due to NTM's unmentioned side-effect). Joey draws and summons Panther Warrior (2000) in Attack Mode, then tributes one of his Scapegoat Tokens to let PW attack but Mai activates Harpie Lady Sparrow Formation, negating the attack. Mai was sick of her life and chose to change it, recalling the events from after Battle City.

Mai's opponent attacks with his Tri-Horned Dragon but Mai activates Mirror Wall to halve THD's ATK to 1425. However, her opponent responds with Rush Recklessly to give it 700 ATK to 2125. Still, Mai counters with Fairy's Hand Mirror to make her own monster the target of RR's effect, raising its ATK to 2500, destroying THD and winning the duel. She didn't feel any better with her victories and runs into Valon, whom helps her obtain the true power she now has. She draws and plays Harpie Lady Phoenix Formation to destroy the number of monsters on Joey's field equal to the number of Harpie Ladies she has and dealing Joey damage equal to the total ATK of his destroyed monsters, resulting in Joey being defenseless and down to 200 Life Points. Valon and Raphael note that Joey's performance is awful and it would be a waste because Dartz wants the souls of strong duelists. Joey is out of moves and proceeds to surrender the duel but Yami convinces him to keep dueling. It's time for Joey to show Mai what true dueling is all about!
