Episode 135: Battle for the Bronze (1)

On top of the Duel Tower, Yami explains why Kaiba lost but Kaiba cannot take that in, protesting that he had the perfect strategy and was going to put the memory of his stepfather behind him. The rest of Yami's friends congratulate him and Yami is surprised to see Joey up and about and learns of Joey's will to never give into Dark Marik but if it wasn't for Joey's REBD, Yami would've lost the duel and commends Kaiba for how hard he fought yet Kaiba doesn't want to hear another word and protests that everyone is alone and never had to ask for anyone's help. However, Yami mentally recalls otherwise, where he helped Kaiba against Lumis and Umbra and after Gozaburo was beaten in a duel. Plus, Kaiba helped Yami during the duel with Strings. Yami wouldn't be the duelist he is today if Kaiba hadn't pushed him to be his best. Kaiba decides it's time to accept his defeat and throws Yami his God Card, then walks away yet Joey isn't satisfied, suggesting a duel for 3rd place between them.

Kaiba isn't interested and finds himself bored by Joey's words and Mokuba agrees until he hears what Kaiba had said earlier. It takes a little taunting but Kaiba accepts the duel challenge and they get set up on ground level. Meanwhile, Ishizu knows that soon Yami will face Dark Marik with the fate of the world at stake, then heads out. Kaiba is confident that he doesn't need his God Card to defeat Joey in a duel but Joey maintains his confidence and Duke can't recall any time Joey has been this confident and Yami remembers Joey's past duels. While Good Marik takes control of Tea` to see Ishizu, the duel gets underway as Kaiba plays Ryu-Kishin Powered (1600) in Attack Mode, then sets 2 cards to end his turn.

Joey draws and summons Gearfried the Iron Knight (1800) in Attack Mode and the gang realize Tea`'s missing but Tristan brings them back to the duel as Joey attacks. However, his attack has activated Kaiba's face down Shrink to halve his RKP's ATK to 800 and his Crush Card (Crush Card Virus in the CG) to infect his monster and have the virus spread to Joey's deck, infecting all of his monsters with 1500+ ATK, bringing Kaiba's score down to 3000. (The real card's effect forces you to tribute a DARK monster with 1000 or less ATK to destroy all monsters on the field and, over the next 3 turns, all monsters your opponent draws with 1500 or more ATK.)Kaiba draws and summons La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamp (1800) in Attack Mode and while he attacks, Ishizu learns of Good Marik's current status through Tea` but Kaiba's attack connects, leaving Joey's score down to 2200.

Joey draws, still upset about losing his strongest monsters, then summons Swordsman of Landstar (500) in Attack Mode and uses Graceful Dice to roll a die and hopefully multiply his monster's ATK by 4 or more to take out La Jinn in its attack. (The card is also is only able to be used once per turn and, as stated in earlier Japanese episodes, can only be used on monsters with 500 or less ATK but the real card isn't limited to any monster but only increases the monster's ATK by 100 times the die result until the End Phase.) His result yields a 4, raising SoL's ATK to 2000 and its attack destroys La Jinn to leave Kaiba down to 2800 LPs. Kaiba protests that while Joey won the battle, he won't win the war and Ishizu catches up on the latest from Good Marik. GM decides he must banish his dark half before it's too late and darts off, despite Ishizu's pleas.
