Episode 126: The Darkness Returns (2)

Inside Mai's room, Serenity sees the Shadow Realm cloud and concludes Joey is dueling in a Shadow Game against Dark Marik. At said duel, Dark Marik notes Joey could use a rest but Joey insults Marik's hairstyle and is reminded of the rules of their duel. Tea` needs a refresher on how Helpoemer works and gets the help she needs and Duke realizes Joey's best cards could be lost before they are used. Dark Marik draws his Coffin Seller Trap Card and sets it with another card to end his turn. Joey wonders why DM isn't attacking but has nothing to brag about in his own hand. His draw yields him Insect Queen but it needs 2 tributes and because of the risk, he summons Baby Dragon (700) in Defense Mode (not to mention Plasma Eel prevents the monster it's attached to from being tributed, which is the real reason Joey can't play IQ).

Joey wants to take action instead of waiting but Tristan and Tea` warn not to. However, Yami adds that Joey should attack so Dark Marik reveals his strategy (which is brainless because you may not have the cards to stop it and therefore would lose). Joey uses his Rocket Warrior's effect as it attacks, draining Drillago of 500 ATK to bring its ATK down to 1100 and letting DM activate Card of Last Will, letting him draw 5 cards since his monster's ATK was decreased. Looking at his hand, DM spots his God Card but Joey doesn't care what new cards DM drew and attacks Drillago with Panther Warrior, destroying it and leaving DM down to 2900.

DM then activates Coffin Seller, dealing Joey 300 damage when one of his monsters is sent to the Grave. (The real card deals 300 damage when 1 or more monsters is sent to the Grave so whether 1 or 5 monsters are sent to the Grave at the same time, the opponent still takes only 300 damage.) Plus, due to Helpoemer, Joey loses 1 card and this time it's his IQ, leaving his score down to 3700. In addition, Plasma Eel remains attached to Panther Warrior, which loses another 500 ATK to take it down to 1000.

DM draws and sets 1 card before using Premature Burial to bring back Drillago in Attack more for 800 Life Points, brining his score down to 2100. Then he tributes Drillago for Legendary Fiend (1500) in Attack Mode, which scares Joey until he realizes it has only 1500 ATK but learns it gains 700 ATK each turn. Joey draws but his draw is too weak and goes to play it in Defense Mode when DM activates Nightmare Wheel, capturing Rocket Warrior and preventing it from attacking or defending. (The real card keeps the monster where it is.) Joey picks up where he left off and plays the Little Winguard (1800) in Defense Mode he tried to do earlier. Next, he switches PW to Defense Mode to end his turn, causing PE to weaken PW by 500 to leave it with 500 ATK and Joey's energy.

DM draws, adding that his NM card deals Joey 500 damage, leaving Joey down to 3200 LPs and his LF gains 700 ATK to bring it up to 2200. His attack with LF destroys LW and leaves Joey down to 2900 by CS' effect. He sets 1 card to end his turn. Once he unleashes his face down Malevolent Catastrophe card, all monsters will be destroyed and Joey will take 300 damage by CS' effect for each monster destroyed. Finally, he'll win by attacking directly with LF (unless of course you don't have any way of bringing him back from the Grave or there's more to LF's effect). Oops! At 11:02 into the US episode, Legendary Fiend is a Normal Monster! Joey draws the 1 card to put an end to Dark Marik's strategy, Question, forcing DM to guess what monster is at the bottom of Joey's Grave and if correctly identified, it's removed from play but if not, it's Special Summoned to Joey's field.

DM tries to remember what was in Joey's Grave first but arrives at the possibility that it's one of the monsters Helpoemer took from Joey's hand. Matter of fact, it IS by Joey's account and Joey taunts DM with a 5 second time limit to guess and when DM doesn't, Joey brings back Jinzo (2400) from his Graveyard in Attack Mode, recalling the day he won it from Espa Roba. He then switches his other monsters to Attack Mode and attacks with Jinzo, destroying DM's LF, leaving DM down to 1900 LPs. Next he attacks directly with his other monsters but Dark Marik activates Dark Wall of Wind, saving him damage from direct attacks. Plus, Helpoemer takes another card (Foolish Burial) from Joey's hand. PE then drains all that's left of PW's ATK and bring Joey to his knees.

DM draws what he needs, the 8 star Lava Golem and has every intention of making tributes for he's allowed to tribute 2 monsters on Joey's field and does so, (3000) playing the monster in Attack Mode and putting Joey inside its cage. (The real card doesn't give you that option.) Yami knows that while monster is Joey's it has a price, causing Joey to lose Life Points. DM sets 1 card and suggests Joey attack with his new monster. To rescue Mai, he must attack DM with Lava Golem!
