Episode 123: Back to Battle City (2)

Inside the Duel Tower, as the duel rages on, the gang watching discuss what they've been told and Kaiba protests that Joey won't be so lucky next time. Yami adds that Kaiba's tournament has gotten way out of hand but Kaiba has no idea what Yami is talking about, reciting his plan to win the tournament. Joey already knows he wants to take on Dark Marik to fulfill his promise to Mai but Kaiba tells him that he can't afford to be daydreaming and is only here because Yami is bailing him out (which isn't even remotely true, given the two duels he fought without Yugi even being present, against Mako and against Weevil). Joey adds that he has to prove himself to Kaiba.

Inside Mai's room, Serenity knows that Mai has been an inspiration to her since the day they met. Elsewhere, Ishizu notes that Odeon is safe thanks to Good Marik and recalls when Tea` enters her room possessed by Good Marik, wanting her help. Just as other events were destined to happen, she can only hope her brother is destined to lose the dark half that controls his body.

Back at the duel, Dark Marik aims to duel Yami in the next round and summons Lord Poison (1500) in Attack Mode attacks Kaiba's Vorse Raider with his own Newdoria. Since Newdoria is weaker, it's destroyed, triggering its effect and letting Dark Marik destroy Kaiba's Vorse Raider, much to Joey's delight. Dark Marik isn't done for he activates Spell of Pain to have Joey take the Battle Damage, dropping Joey's score down to 3300 and raising his platform up. (The real Spell of Pain only works on Effect Damage.) Yami draws and tributes his Big Shield Gardna for Beast of Gilfer (Archfiend of Gilfer in the CG) (2200) in Attack Mode and goes to attack Kaiba directly but Kaiba retaliates with Attack Guidance Armor to redirect Yami's attack to Dark Marik's Lord Poison.

However, Dark Marik activates Mirror Force to bring the attack back at Yami but Yami counters with Seven Tools of the Bandit to negate MF's activation and destroy it, making DM take the attack anyway, causing him to lose his monster and bring his score and platform position to equal Joey's. Still, Yami used STotB, which has an activation fee of 1000 Life Points, leaving Yami down to 3000 and slightly above Joey and Dark Marik. It's Joey's turn and he finally gets a monster he can summon and plays Gearfried the Iron Knight (1800) in Attack Mode and decides to attack Kaiba directly, leaving Kaiba down to 2200 and his platform highest of all. Yami realizes that Joey must want to face Dark Marik in the Semi-Finals but nevertheless, Joey sets 1 card to end his turn. Kaiba draws, unwilling to lose a duel on purpose, despite wanting to face Yami in the next round and sets 3 cards before summoning Blade Knight (1600) in Attack Mode and attacking DM directly, leaving DM down to 1700 and his platform highest up the tower. Kaiba plans to face Yami next and when their God Cards clash, Yami will know what true torment is all about!
