Episode 102: Freeze Play (1)

Still climbing up the remains of the bridge, Tea` wonders if her friends are having as much fun. Yugi isn't as he asks if the tunnels ever end and Yami adds only if Noah wants them to so Yugi keeps running until Noah changes Yugi's destination. Crump interrupts, requesting to duel next and make up for Gansley's defeat. Noah agrees and has already made Tea` the opponent. Tea` has made it to the other end of the valley and needs a nap so she shuts her eyes, dreaming about Yugi mentioning a play they saw a few years back featuring Dark Magician Girl and Yugi telling her she'll need the DMG card. DMG flies across the screen (getting the necessary censorship at 3:10 into the US episode) before choosing Tea` to join her.

A penguin wakes her up and requests to follow. When Tea` and the penguin arrive, the duo and a few of the penguin's friends board a raft and cast off with more of its friends waving goodbye. Either by coincidence or an actual response, the penguin does squawk twice and leaves the raft with its friends while Tea` continues the slow ride. When the raft reaches land, there are thousands of penguins waiting and Tea climbs the equal number of stairs to the top where a buildings sits. Inside, Tea` finds more penguins and an additional voice that knows everything about her and that her number is up. A Nightmare Penguin appears, explaining that he's Crump, former accountant of Kaiba Corp and one of the Big Five. He runs through his notes (and a note that he doesn't have all the facts right as Tea` has dueled six times, four off screen, once with Yugi on the fifth time and once with Mai, all around the Duelist Kingdom era).

Tea` has had enough and runs away but gets trapped on a pillar of ice with Crump on his own pillar opposite her. They must choose their own decks but Tea`'s victory odds are slim. Tea` hasn't seen most of these cards but recognizes Mirror Force (which is Sage's Stone in the Japanese version at 8:25 into the episode) and picks it. Next, she chooses Dark Magician Girl as her Deck Master while Crump is his Deck Master, Nightmare Penguin. While their duel gets set up, Yugi ponders which door to choose and agrees to test the doors. Tea` starts the duel by setting 1 card and playing Ancient Elf (1450) in Attack Mode. Crump plays Giant Red Seasnake (1800) in Attack Mode and his Deck Master ability gives all WATER monsters he controls 200 ATK so GRS' ATK becomes 2000 (and I'll implement this with each new WATER monster he plays). Next he uses Cold Wave to stop both players from using their Spells and Traps on the field for one turn. (In the CG, Cold Wave must be the first card you play during Main Phase 1 and also prevents you from activating Spells and Traps from the hand.)

Crump attacks with GRS, destroying AE and bringing Tea`'s score down to 3450 and bringing ice up to her knees as Crump adds that as they lose LPs, they are encased by that amount of ice. Meanwhile, Yugi hears Tea`'s words and tries to go through the door but is reflected back, learning that a 1 star monster awaits behind it and draws, bringing out Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress (Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress #1 in the CG) (1400) and taking out the Sinister Serpent behind the door.Tea` draws and sets 1 monster as Crump advises to be more dressed for the weather before setting 2 cards face down.

Tea` takes her turn (and at 14:01 into the US episode, we can see that her hidden monster is Unhappy Maiden or at least has that monster's artwork) by using Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Crump's right hidden card. However, this activates Crump's other hidden card, Driving Snow, which destroys Tea`'s face down Mirror Force. Then she uses Offerings to the Doomed to destroy GRS. Next she flip-summons her (actual) hidden monster Fire Sorcerer (1000) to Attack Mode, triggering her effect to deal 800 damage to Crump by discarding 2 of her cards, leaving Crump burnt and down to 3200. Next, she attacks directly with FS, leaving Crump further cooked and down to 2200 with ice moving up almost one third of his body but being a penguin, he loves the cold.

Tea` asks about why Crump is so obsessed with penguins and Crump explains that they saved him from a life of misery. He soon devoted his life to his two loves: numbers and penguins but Kaiba shot down his dream that he claimed would triple their profits. He takes his turn by playing Flying Penguin (1400) in Attack Mode, then equips it with Penguin Sword, raising its ATK by 800 to 2200. Tea` realizes her monster is a goner (it was actually a goner when the monster hit the field, without any bonuses). Crump's attack with FP takes to FS and leaves Tea` down to 2250 LPs and ice just past her knees. Yugi meanwhile discovers that he and Yami have been running around in circles. Being chilly is the least of Tea`'s worries!
