Episode 77: Friends 'Til the End (3)

At the duel, as Yugi walks slowly back to his side of the field, he hopes Joey will be released from Marik's control. (Hmm, at 2:20 into the US episode, we can see Card Destruction in his hand but last I checked, Marik/Joey took that card when Exchange was played.) Marik orders Joey to throw the Millennium Puzzle into the ocean where his Rare Hunters will be asked to retrieve it but Joey's true self prevents even the center piece from being thrown away and instead puts it back into place. Marik agrees to let Joey keep the puzzle because either way they'll destroy Yugi. Yugi finally takes his turn by setting 2 cards and playing Beta the Magnet Warrior (1700) in Attack Mode after Red-Eyes gets back the 500 ATK it lost previously, leaving it with 900.

Marik/Joey summons Panther Warrior (2000) in Attack Mode and Marik orders Joey to attack Red-Eyes with PW but instead Joey attacks Beta with Rocket Warrior, leaving Marik to toss his container of ice and glass filled with ice to the floor in anger. Worse still, Yugi counters Joey's attack with Magic Arm Shield, forcing Rocket Warrior to attack PW, leaving PW down to 0 ATK thanks to both RW and Attritions' effects. (The real card's name is Magical Arm Shield and it cannot be used to target the attacking monster. Instead the attacking monster attacks any other opponent's monster you choose.) All Marik needs to do is keep Joey under his control long enough to win the duel. Meanwhile, Duke, Serenity and Tristan hunt for duelists to find where the Battle City Finals are. Back at the duel,

Yugi tributes Beta for Beast of Gilfer (Archfiend of Gilfer in the CG) (2200) in Attack Mode and attacks RW, destroying it and leaving Marik/Joey's score down to 1700. While the clock's timer slips below 11 minutes, Tristan discovers not only the duelist having only 1 Locator Card but Duke is holding hands with Serenity and has to separate them. However, once they're spotted by the Rare Hunter trio, Tristan orders Duke to take Serenity while he takes on the Rare Hunters himself. Serenity and Duke encounter Mai, whom barely stops in time, warning them to cross the street appropriately but learns of their situation. Minutes tick by and Tristan has beaten two of the Rare Hunters to their core while the third tells him where Yugi's friends are and he gets a left from Mai. At the duel, Marik/Joey draws Skull Dice (which is a Spell Card when shown at 13:33 into the Japanese episode) and Marik thinks it might help.

He sets 2 cards to end his turn. Yugi draws and also sets 1 card face down and attacks. Marik/Joey responds with Skull Dice and Graceful Dice but Yugi counters with De-Spell to destroy GD (which wouldn't negate the effect in the CG). It comes down to SD's result, which ends up being a 2, halving BoG's ATK to 1100, still enough to take down PW and leave Marik/Joey down to 1100 LPs. Mai and her newly acquired friends arrive by car to see the duel in progress, learning the situation the others are in. Serenity goes to take her bandages off but Tea`'s pleas are enough to stop her. Marik/Joey draws Meteor of Destruction, just what they need to win. One more move and Yugi will be gone for good while Marik rules the world!
